“Between avarage and very good.”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

We spent the weekend in Hotel Heideborgh in Garderen and we actually had a really good time. Good company and very good weather for the time of the year. The hotel is beautiful located in the woods and has a nice terrace. Although the hotel can also be used for business occasions it is also very pleasant for the tourists that want to relax. We booked an Executive room because they are a bit more spacious than the standard rooms. Here we come to the first two cons where the hotel could have made the difference between "average" and "very good". Our room located on the 2nd floor faced south and with the sun on it was kinda hot in our room and that stayed during the night. There is no Airco and that will for the summer visitors an unpleasant experience. Even in April with nightly temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius it was hard to cool down the room during evening and night. Second con for the room was that the internet was not working. We could connect to the access point (with a strong signal) but we did not come to the page where we could register (no internet connection). Once in the hallway or downstairs internet worked like a charm. My guess is that the access points at our location was disconnected from the network. We asked for a solution 3 times and although they promised to call the provider for a solution it was not followed up.

The staff is most friendly and willing to help. We were served by several nice employees and you could feel that it was their objective to make us feel welcome. And that is very much appreciated. The Greek bartender (ask about the train) knows what he pours and tells good stories about the spirits and all kind of other things.

Unfortunately some of the staff is next to being extremely friendly also a bit sloppy as it comes to the bill. In the restaurant we had to check the bill twice and they had to take off several items we did not consume. At check out we came to the conclusion that some of the bills were entered twice and they had to remove the unsigned ones.

Did it spoil our weekend? Of course not! Overall we had a good experience in a beautiful hotel at a beautiful location and if management addresses our concerns: Internet, sloppiness and room temperature they will move from average to excellent!

Room Tip: In summer opt for a room facing North. That might be the cooler rooms. If near rooms 328, 329 check...

The Hotel is located in the forrest close to the small town of Garderen.
The rooms are big (we stayed in a suite) but the bathroom is a bit small. Having said that, it has a bath/shower sink and it is clean. The are two seats and a table in the room. There is NO fridge. The room had two big doors with french balconies.
Breakfast is good. The little cafe is cosy and very welcoming. Staff is professional.
We had a special rate, would not have stayed here if we had to pay full price, then you pay too much for what you get.

I was here on a two day course and had an average impression of the hotel. The location is great, surrounded by nature, you can walk straight into the forest and it is easily reached from the highway.

The room i had was pretty and apart from chewing gum on the bathroom door handle, very clean and spacious. However, at night, i found it to be noisy; there was a continous high pitched beep that lasted more or less throughout the night and i could here other guests moving around their rooms, which kept me from sleeping.

As i am a vegetarian, i had announced this up front, but apart from the fact that the food was high quality and wll prepared, my choices were limited and mostly based on cheese. Heavy on the fat and at lunch and breakfast, again, i could only eat cheese.

The one thing that i found really sad is the fact that you have to pay 10 euros for 24 hours of wireless internet. Come on, this is the 21st century. Basically you HAVE to get it if you want any contact with the outside world as both 3g and cellular coverage were really bad (and not just with me).

All in all a decent hotel for a short stay, but it would not be my first choice.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room AWAY from the bar and AWAY from the boiler room; i think my room was nex...

Lovely hotel in the woods. We stayed in an executive suite. The room was big, the bed was very comfortable.
But I have to mention a few little problems. The bathroom looks old, and there is no air-conditioning in the room. We had to open up a window to cool the room and also invite the flies to come in….
Breakfast was basic but OK. Would stay here again, only not in a hot period.

This is a hotel we visit 2-3 times a year because of the very nice atmosphere and surroundings.
It also has a magnificent grand cafe where you can sit, read or whatever you want to do, very relaxing.
In the countryside you can make a marvellous bicycle ride with plenty of forest and moors to sample!
The beds are good, the bathroom is a bit outdated but good and very clean.
Breakfast and dinner is superb, the staff is very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is beautifully situated, surrounded by forests. The building itself looks great from the outside. We had a nice room at the front of the hotel.Plenty of storage space. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. When we asked for extra pillows, they were brought immediately. Beds are comfortable. The bathroom was adequate; the shower is in the bathtub, with a plastic curtain to keep the water from dripping all over the place. Unfortunately the curtain was not very clean, showing black stains at the bottom. Breakfast is buffet style and plentiful. However, on our second and third morning there were not enough staff members in the restaurant during breakfast, which meant long waiting times before items, such as bread, yoghurt, etc. were refilled. But staff kept smiling, even though they were snowed under. We slept very well during the first two nights, but the third night we were kept awake by a bunch of men, drinking and making a lot of noise. Long after midnight, my husband got up, went to the reception desk and asked them to do something about the noise and after maybe 20 minutes it stopped. Next morning my husband mentioned this to the manager, who apologized and offered him a coffee to make up for the inconvenience. We had been to this hotel before and had the same problem with loud guests, but oh well....I guess this goes together with warm summer nights and holiday season. Next time we'll ask for a room in a quieter part of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

For a business trip, the hotel seems a good choice but if you stay there for leisure reasons, there a much more romantic places to stay. The restaurant is quite good but the rest of the hotel was quite disappointing. The lighting in the bedroom (we were in the so called Royal Suite) and bathroom is not very cosy. If you want to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, there is no chance of doing this without waking your spouse because of the huge amount of light that is automatically switched on. The bathroom was totally outdated. When we asked for new soap, we found this on top of the old, empty one (see photo). The staff is not very enthusiastic to see clients it seems. The 'wellness centre' is also out of date. Pool very small and not very modern. Our long reserved massages were not on the list.
