we went to parkhurst forest the first week of september with our two dogs and got completley lost we spent 3 hours wandering round ,we finally found a ranger who directed us back too the car park ! there were hardly any signs ,and at one stage we were quite worried we wouldent get out ! a local who we spoke too said it happened all thetime !!! thats alright then it would be nice to have signage or even fence markers to keep track

The forestry commission say there is a wheelchair accessible path and sculptures so we went thinking it might be nice for a walk. The entrance signage was hidden and on turning into the carpark we were very disappointed. Not a single sign to show a map or which paths were suitable. Another couple did the same as us - had a quick look and decided there must be another entrance and drive off again.

We did the same and managed to download a PDF map to look for parking. The map was very poor showing no road names.

We returned to the carpark and tried following the coach sign for schools - some charity workers there knew the forest and hadn't heard of a wheelchair accessible route - they said the paved gravel type route to the hides was up a steep incline. Also that the sculptures were up there.

We gave up and left.

This is a wonderful place for a good long walk. I go there time & time again & never get fed up with visiting. It can be quiet peaceful. There are different routes you can walk but they all lead back to the free car park. There is a hide where you can sit & wait to see if your lucky enough to see our native Red Squirrel. I managed to see 2 different ones. But they were so quick I couldn't get a photo. Well worth visiting as it is a wonderful place you can forget all your troubles & enjoy the surroundings.

Brodie (2 year old retriever) loved the freedom, the smells and the new friends he made. He also loved the muddy water in the ditches at the side of the path. Lots of different routes to choose from and people were very friendly. There's a children's activity area in the middle and we saw some intrepid 11 year olds about the climb high up a tree.

Parkhurst Forest has some lovely old oak trees, a proper forest. Giant wind turbines would be an absolute travesty.

Maps placed strategically would be really helpful, as with my navigation skills we could easily have got lost and parking wasn't easy.

I found Parkhurst Forest clean, tidy and presentable. Even with all the recent rain the paths were dry and bog free.
