Ideal dog walking area , decent car park , need good walking shoes /boots can be muddy in places, its the sort of forest you could really get lost in , but follow the paths and eventually you will return ! Great in all seasons .

This was pitched online as the second best place to see red squirrels on the island. We walked the length of the main track clockwise & then found a little track leading off to the left which looked hopeful as it had a massive squirrel totem. However, speaking to one of the park wardens we learned that red squirrels haven't been seen in the area since last year and have simply disappeared. Mega disappointing! Come back squirrels!

Fantastic place for a dog walk, but no toilet/cafe facilities, which would keep people there for longer. Better clearing up of dog mess would be good and more poo bins.

We visited the forest (again) in October. And were thrilled to see close up, red squirrels. We have visited the forest many times before and have never been successful in seeing them. The forest was quite muddy. (well it was October) but even so, if you stick to the main paths you can miss most of the puddles. We have visited in the Summer and there are no such problems. There is an official feeding station about a 20 minute stroll into the forest from the main carpark (opposite Forest garden centre) on the main Newport to Yarmouth road. This area has been conspired to coax the squirrels to an area when they can be seen by us. but as I have said, we have never seen any at this location. My wife says its because we have only ever been there when school parties are there, and the noise from the children may well put the squirrels off. A great place for a walk. A great place to view rare red squirrels. Take your willies if visiting during the Autumn and Winter.

we went to parkhurst forest the first week of september with our two dogs and got completley lost we spent 3 hours wandering round ,we finally found a ranger who directed us back too the car park ! there were hardly any signs ,and at one stage we were quite worried we wouldent get out ! a local who we spoke too said it happened all thetime !!! thats alright then it would be nice to have signage or even fence markers to keep track
