I stayed during the Isle of Wight Festival, the hotel is lovely and the service is great. Martin and Suki was very friendly and helpful. The free wifi was brilliant and the breakfast very nice. See you next year!

My wife and I stayed here for just one night last week. The business goes back to the 1600's when Newport was a true port and visiting Captains would stay at the hotel while their cargoes were being unloaded and the tides were becoming favourable for their departure. Your hosts Martin and Suki Sinclair can give you a lot more detail than I can. Martin can also give you a lot of other interesting stories emanating from his first career as a fighter pilot and flying instructor in the Royal Air Force.

We stayed in a lovely double room with a four poster bed and jacuzzi bath. The room faced south west as most rooms at Newport Quay do so it was very light and sunny. There is ample parking directly outside the hotel although you have to pay for it before around 1800. In the evening there is a huge choice of eating within a short walk of the hotel so no worries abut driving after dinner with some drinks.

Breakfast was comprehensive, full English right through to Continental. Ingredients were well sourced with free range eggs and dry cured bacon and local pork sausages.

There is a large amount of hotel accommodation in Newport but, in my opinion, staying at the Newport Quay provides much more of an experience than staying at a Premier Inn or Travel Lodge. Let me know what you think.

Room Tip: Our room 12 was great. Ask for the four poster and Jacuzzi bath

This Hotel feels part of the Island as it should be, an atmosphere of welcoming friendlyness from owners and staff. I have stayed here on and off for the past 3 weeks due to business commitments and wouldn't swop it for a modern hotel for love or money. Management are most helpful in every aspect and go out of there way to ensure your stay is as pleasant and relaxing as possible. I have stayed in many Hotels over the years and personally find this Hotel having charactor once again of the island with a warm homely feeling, not like modern cold Hotels with robotic staff who don't interact or really care what kind of day you had. Martin and his staff personalities shine through with honest interest on all topics with great communication and interacting skills that you would only find from friends.
Yes the Hotel is older, it is a family run business/home with owner always ontop of any repairs that need done, just like looking after your own home with family running in and out, not easy but with no compromise to clientele.
Good breakfast, clean and tidy with friendly welcome from Martin and staff.

Room Tip: Just ask and management will do there best to help inany matter.

First and foremost, the staff and management are brilliant - Martin is like having your own PA on hand. He even sorted the ferries out and changed a timing and we got massive savings for all his efforts
Breakfast is included on the room rate and is very good - with genuine offer of more coffee and toast.
The location is fine - apart from the idiotic visitor parking system that the Isle of Wight Council have introduced. It is all well and good, but is a new thing to some, and a few of the Civil Enforcement Officers are not yet up to speed yet, they're too busy trying to lift their knuckles up off the floor. They might even be bust hi-sixing their mates or relatives.
As I said the location is fine and about 25 minutes to anywhere on the island. Even the town of Newport has some interesting spots. We ate at the Tamarind one evening serving Indian cuisine. It was okay at best, and the portions were fairly small for such a restaurant type. The other evening we drove a couple of miles to The Stag on the road to Cowes, which was quite exceptional, apart from one or two Civil Enforcement Officers who were seemingly in with their friends and offspring. They shouldn't really be allowed to breed.
Fortunately our meal had already been savoured by the time their party took to their table. I'm surprised that they were allowed cutlery, although I wouldn't be surprised if they got a discounted group-rate
We also found a charming if not noisy bar one evening - The Bargeman's Rest - a nice pub in a good location with reasonable pub food on offer. However, you will need hearing protection if they have a band playing live during your meal. You could get served up some rather strained vocals and beam-shattering bass-lines along with your meal.

Anyway, back to the Newport Quay.
Martin is genuinely brilliant and the place is well located. It is clean and functional and well equipped, with free wi-fi.
The one down side during our stay were the pillows. I think my pillow case was filled with shredded paper or old rags. The one underneath barely came under the umbrella of being a pillow. And the one underneath that wasn't there. I think the duvets are heading the same way too.
Our room was rather narrow, and I must emphasise that not all the rooms are, but ours was and I think I must have woken the guests, if not the entire population of Newport, as I stirred in my sleep and swung my feet out of bed, only for my big-toe to impact with the adjacent wall less than a foot from the bedside. I think it's broken, and the wall will no doubt be a bit of a mess too.
Anyway, if Martin revamps the pillows to the same standard of the rest of the hotel, it would be really good, and to be honest it isn't too much to remedy.
When I said the one down-side, I actually meant the first. I've thought of another one; it could do with a bar. But there are so many other places to go, I'll forgo this one. So it's just the pillows…

Very many thanks to Martin and the team for a very enjoyable stay. Cheers

Enjoy…

Room Tip: Book direct and get Martin to sort out the ferry for you

The hotel is pretty, the stuff was really lovely, the room was a bit small but beautifully decorated, the bathroom was very clean and modern. The breakfast was a lot with a choice of different cereals (even porridge) as the first course of breakfast, then different choices for the "main course of the breakfast" where beside a really good full english breakfast they also had really lovely vegetarian options. :) All in all, it was an excellent choice.
