Three of us used this as a base for a walking holiday in April '06. It's a standard modern business hotel lacking any special character, but everything works (and you value an instant hot bath if you're doing some serious walking!), and the location, within 7 minutes walk of Newport's centre and bus station, was ideal. As it overlooks the end of the Medina estuary it is worth asking for a waterside room, but any room will give you a quiet night as it is well set back from the road. To be asked to pay in full up front was a surprise, and means you need to know what size breakfast you will want in advance, but the staff are friendly to those who clearly are not merely temporary couples. The full breakfast in the adjoining restaurant building is just that - you can order as much as you like, and the service is prompt and the choice wide. There is another waterside restaurant only a couple of minutes walk upstream if you want a change of menu and a lot more character. Well worthwhile as a convenient base for the island.

We stayed here for 4 nights in July. Having scoured the internet for decent B&B accommodation, I couldn't find anything I liked, so instead went for the Travel Inn. At approx £50 per night per room I couldnt' beat it for value.

It looks fairly new and everything is in good condition. They only had a disabled room left so we took this and it was fine - ground floor access and lots of wide doorways. We're not disabled but even we found the additional hand rails useful when you got out of the shower!

The hotel is just outside of Newport but next to a Brewers Fayre pub, where we had dinner one night. Good basic food and ideal for families. We also ate in various pubs/restaurants in Newport each night which was fine too.

Newport itself is pretty average but we toured all over the island so being in the middle was a great base. Plus it was only 10 minutes to the car ferry terminal.

Would recommend.

Nice modern building, clean rooms and lovely views over the river if you get a back-facing room.

Most of the staff were efficient, even if they struggled to share a brain cell between them... but that's pretty much what I expect from these places.

Just round the corner from Newport's town centre, and close to the cinema and places to eat out.

Very good launching place to explore the island, can easily get to all corners quickly.

We had tried to stay in Portsmouth but the Fleet Review followed by the International Festival of The Sea meant that accommodation there was very scarce. The Newport Premier Travel Inn is only about 4 years old with an extension built only a few months ago - there is a Brewers Fayre opposite for breakfast. Rooms were clean and quiet with views over grassland or over the River Medina where the hotel sits on Medina Quay. Staff were helpful, parking plentiful and with the hotel sitting at the end of a cul de sac past the Council Offices is quiet although only a 5-10 minute walk from Newport town centre and 15 minute drive from the Southampton to Cowes car ferry. A good choice
