We stayed for one night... The receptionist could of done with some help, as she seemed to be having to deal with booking in, answering phones and dealing with guest enquiries all at the same time, whilst the guy who was possibly the manager repaired his lunchbox with sellotape in the room behind the reception desk !!! Walking to our room (second floor at the far end of the complex) we both commented on its shabby appearance. The room had been cleaned and had fresh bedding and towels, but it didnt disguise the stained carpet and the 80's tired 'retro' en-suite fixtures and fittings!!!!!! The tiles over the bath had suffered from constant moisture ingress due to cracked grouting and it will be only a matter of time before they fall on someone!!! We ate dinner in the restaurant and were at least pleased with the meal and breakfast in the morning was very good.. Staff were friendly and helpful, and special credit to the receptionist who did a sterling job. The owners of this establishment really need to invest some serious money to bring the hotel up to the standards of Premier Inns/Marston Inns who charge the same and less money for the same type of rooms which are always impeccibly clean and up to date.....

For an evenings stay the roman hotel is adequate in terms of room standard and location, particularly as we were heading to v festival. Ok the rooms are 'standard' and dont expect boutique style accomodation but where it may lack a modern type of look it makes up for it in service. The reception staff are polite, willing to help and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and even arriving back at the hotel at 2am the night staff were polite and friendly. Perfect for a stop over or for v festival, book aero taxis for cheapest deal ......

Stayed here with my family 2 adults 2 children for 1 night enroute to Alton towers (1 hour away) booked through Superbreak. The hotel was spotless and friendly, our room was a lovely size with a double bed a double sofa bed and a put u up bed, the bathroom was very clean and well equipt, breakfast the next morning was great with a good choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially when we had a problem with our car.

Stayed here last night while going to a friends wedding up the road. On arrival the car park is big and adequate and a nice reception. The receptionist was very welcoming and friendly and could not do more to make you feel valued. We stayed in room 213 which I found out was the bridal suite.

Yes the corridors are dated and worn and could really do with a tidy up but the room really made up for it. The suite had a separate sitting room and shower room which was amazing. The bed was just great and I had a lovely nights sleep. The wife and I even had a bath in the big double bath. Spoilt rotten and at a great price.

We only had breakfast but it was hot fresh and obviously cooked to order. Did not have to wait long maybe 15 mins at the most and the staff were friendly and polite despite being run ragged. I would stay here again in the same room!!

Upon checking in during the afternoon the receptionist initially came across as very snooty and it was as if we had interrupted her conversation with other members of staff but a couple of hour later when I spoke to her she was fine so maybe we caught her at a bad moment.

We were allocated room 113 which must have been the furthest we could possibly have been from the hotel entrance but at least we were on the ground floor, friends were on the 2nd and 3rd floors and there is no lift so had to carry all their luggage up flights of stairs. It was a triple room with 3 single beds.

The hotel is on an industrial estate next to Available Car. There is ample parking. It looks pretty impressive from the outside with its white pillars but there isn’t much of an area or garden to sit out in if it is sunny. Unfortunately the room did not live up to expectation either.

Our first impression when we opened the door, was that a recent stay in a Spanish 2*was better than this 3*!

The window catches were rusty and either didn’t open or were rusted into position. The glass in our window was cracked and held together with cello tape. They was condensation between panes so you couldn’t see out of most of them with mildew around the frames.

Cosmetically, the fixtures & fittings were tatty and worn, the arms of the armchair were worn and dirty, the lampshades were dented and stained, walls were scuffed and marked. The carpet was dirty and stained, the walls were scuffed and marked and the furniture had coffee rings on it. The smallish TV is housed within a bulky dark-wood unit which appears to me to be a total waste of space. Why not put it on the wall and free up some floor space?

In the bathroom the shower curtain was stained and the shower pole rusty, the shower itself was old with controls that were yellowed with age and dirty. The plug overflow was filthy & full of black slime, the mirror had aged black rot around the edges, the door was chipped and scuffed, and the extractor unit was so noisy it was unbelievable.

Little things that could have been avoided: there were 3 cups but only 1 spoon, 6 assorted coffee or t bags but no decaffeinated option. There was 1 hot chocolate so that could have caused arguments. Not enough pillows.

We were woken early on the Sunday morning by a group of loud voices in the next room.

Whilst eating at the hotel, cups and plates were still dirty after having been washed with dried food on them. Breakfast was a shambles, no laid tables, no milk, no juice, no croissants, & a lengthy wait for hot food. The food however was excellent. I do query the fact that you pay the same rate for cereal, toast and a full cooked English breakfast that we took in the dining room, and yet it is the same for a small bowl of cereal with cold toast and a cup of coffee delivered to your room. (Must be because the poor chap had to carry it up 3 floors to the room we were eating in).

On the plus side, the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. When we requested more pillows they were left in our room when we were out, and the staff even found a multi socket extension lead for us to use as we had numerous cameras, phones and tablets to charge.

It’s a nice little hotel, could just do with some updating though, and a lift to higher floors.

Room Tip: There is no lift so have a ground floor room if your bags are heavy or you are unsteady/unable to do stairs.
