Description: We offer authentic, quality Indian Cuisine in Blackburn, Lancashire. Established in 1992 we have an unrivaled reputation for both quality and customer care. Whether you're looking for a venue for your next special occasion or quality Indian food - you'll always find a fast, friendly service waiting for you.Set in the picturesque Ribble Valley the Shajan is an award-winning restaurant. It started off as a small business holding only 96 customers. However its popularity lead to its gradual expansion over the years and it is now able to accommodate up to 205 customers. The restaurant itself is split into 3 rooms enabling it to cater for private parties and large functions without losing its intimacy or atmosphere. Its modern decor, luxurious setting and spacious car park have attracted a wide range of customers including celebrities, some of which arrive in helicopters. The chefs' come from all over South Asia, so the restaurant is able to offer a varied cuisine, and the large number of regular South Asian customers is a testament to the foods authenticity. We believe the restaurant's reputation is our best accolade as it is built purely on word of mouth. The Shajan's emphasis on quality, customer service and above all its continual drive for improvement, have all lead to its success.

“Worth a trip out”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

We have to drive past a number of establishments to reach Shajan so it's taken us a while to get around to visiting. We weren't disappointed.

Good food and service in a modern setting with plenty of atmosphere. We were there on a Thursday evening and it was almost full. It has the right mixture of intimacy within a bustle.

There's plenty to choose from and the dishes we chose were as good as we've ever had elsewhere, in fact in many areas they put more effort in than most Indian restaurants.

I would expect a place like this to cost more than i'm used to paying but it was less expensive than nearer places which we visit regularly.

Top marks.

“Very nice food, improved since last time, but made mistakes on drinks.”
Reviewed 31 July 2013 via mobile

Very impressed, our last eat in visit was quite a while ago (had a few take outs in between)
I must say, the food has improved considerably, the starters were a lot fresh and tender tasting, the mains were more meaty and not as many peppers and onions in them.
After tonight's experience I would sincerely recommend this place for a pleasant and relaxing meal.
JUST one negative point, the waiters always got my alcoholic drink wrong, the rest of my family was ok, as they were on soft drinks, but three times they got mine wrong. But, hey!!! You can't have everything, the lovely food and service compensated for the small three errors.
Quite reasonably priced, and more importantly the toilets were immaculate !!!!!

“FIRST AND LAST VISIT :-(”
Reviewed 4 July 2013

We have wanted to visit this restaurant for many years and decided to finally give it a try tonight.
Sort of wishing we had not have bothered at this precise moment ( I will elaborate later ) .
It has good curb appeal and the interior is very clean and modern. Service was efficient and the majority of the staff were pleasant and helpful just one miserable individual who took our payment ( maybe because we did not leave a tip ?) .
The poppadoms were not very fresh to start with . The starters were the best part of the meal , sheesh kebab and chicken pakora , have had better but they were ok . The main meals were just simply ok , one of them was on the specials list (cannot remember the name ) just tasted strangely sweet for an indian curry , it left a very odd taste in our mouths after the meal ?
Overall it was just ok , nothing to drive out of the way for as we had .
The main reason for definitely not wanting to return was the start of the tummy ache for us both on the journey home . Too much information I know but we only have 1 toilet in our home and we have been queuing up for it all evening !
To me this is the sign of a dodgy meal so no never again , thank you very much .

“Always efficient”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

Table for 7 not booked in advance Sunday 18:00 and we were accomodated without any fuss. We had a drink in the lounge area whilst we waited for our table to be prepared which only took about 15 minutes. The food was delivered efficiently and quickly witby friendly waiters. With drinks the total bill for 7 was £142 which was a it on the high side.

“Good meal, just a little flustered”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

We dined at Shajan as a group of 12 (8 adults, 2 children, 2 infants) on a Saturday evening, and were shocked at how busy the place was ten minutes after opening, which can only be a good sign. We were seated in the bar area and given a few food and drinks menus. The decor of the bar area is charming, especially the rice-infused tables, a lovely touch!

Our drinks order was taken after a short while, and delivered minutes later. We were then ushered to our table. The main restaurant decor again was of a high standard, but I can't remember any music playing (maybe down to bringing kids!). We were served throughout the night by various members of staff which sometimes can be a bit of a problem, and it showed that night (I counted about 6 or 7 different staff throughout). All our meals were brought out together after a round of poppadoms. After reading other reviews I can honestly say we did not feel pushed or hurried at any time throughout the night which was good to see.

The main courses were good all round, the only downside being the garlic naans that were dripping with oil. All desserts were devoured, with the sorbets being particurlarly impressive. A good dining experience, I think next time we will go without the little ones, as even though they were catered for I don't think it is the best place to bring children, maybe somewhere with a ball pit or a cage next time!

All in all a good Indian, a bit pricey but I would say one of the best in the area except Agra in Hapton. We shall return, negative kids.
