“an unpleasant stay”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

We stayed here as part of a family weekend. The hotel has some great views over the wildlife paddock. Our stay was ruined by the attitude of the bar staff (one in particular called Nathan) who were rude and downright nasty. We were not rude nor boorish and do not know what we did to deserve such vitriol but it means we will certainly never use this hotel again. This is a shame as there were some good staff there, the rooms were spacious and clean, the food was acceptable too without being outstanding. It could be a good hotel but like a lot of Hoiday Inn's just fails to hit the mark.

Another problem we had was the the fire alarm light in the room. It pulsed out a huge halo of red light every 20 seconds or so and made for a distracted and uncomfortable nights sleep every night. Bizarre! I have never seen such a light before in any other hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

we have been coming to the chessington hotel for 4 years every august for our daughters birthday.Cant express enough that this is the most amazing hotel with the most spectacular views apart from being in africa there really is not any better. After an exausting day of rides & excitment there is nothing better than having a meal in the zufari grill & bar then sitting out on the decking while watching the animals running around across the water hole its AMAZING. Dont even think about it just book & go you wont regret it .

Room Tip: watyama view room, wake up look out the window and see zebra OMG!

The hotel was very clean and nicely decorated with safari theme. Thr family room was nicely laid out, my children loved their little room. The swimming pool is small but warm and opens early so you can go for a swim before the park opens. Breakfast offered all the food options you can think of such as full english breakfast, danish pastrys, croissants and fruit salad, cereals and cold meals. All well cooked and good quality. The restaurant is a little pricey but food was lovely. There is an evening childrens club so parents can relax with drink after dinner. The restaurant over lookes the safari so you can watch the zebras, ostriches and other animals roaming about. Will definately be going back.

Room Tip: You can pay extra for a room over looking the safari but as those rooms are abouve the restaurant an...

We have just come back from a fantastic stay. We took our twins here for their 11th Birthday.
The room was fab and as we had mentioned it was their birthday we had themed balloons on arrival in the room. Our room was amazing, a separate area for the twins with their own TV ( they were well impressed)
Every member of staff was welcoming and enthusiastic. The hotel entertainment for half term week was great. We could easily have entertained the children without even entering the park.
The restaurant food was good although the vegetarian options at the lunch buffet could be better.
Overall it was a great experience an we will be going back!!!

I chose this hotel because of the swimming pool, only to find that it is closed for much of this year. It is otherwise a very good hotel, but has lost 2 stars from me because there was no notice of the closure.

I have used this hotel many times and there is always something that irritates, be it lack of communication, a rogue bad attitude or something.

This time, I stayed 3 nights and all was great. Maybe it'd because they weren't too busy but they really seem to have got their act together. A little attention to the billing process would give it a 5. If the room is pre-paid, you don't need to charge me again!

The hotel is having an extension built so the leisure centre is closed. It would have been nice to have been informed of this either before my stay or when I checked in. Never mind, a short walk in my trunks gave me some exercise........

Keep up the good work

We stayed here on in February for 1 night 2 adults, 2 children (8, 6).

Parking easy and plentiful.
Check-in was quick.

Room (140) did not have a great view (just the car park) but no big deal.
Room was well laid out into 3 'separate' rooms
Small area with two small beds and a telly for the kids (which they loved), modern bathroom, then main room with king bed, desk, large lcd tv, and comfy chair. Good air con too.
All well furnished and very clean - nothing at all to complain about.
Much better than many other holiday inns I've stayed in.

Dinner in Zafari came alarmingly quickly - but was better quality than expected.
(TGI's type food). Kids meals were good and it is quite a nice 'themed' restaurant.

Prices in Bar and restaurant are expensive for what you get - but it is (sadly) expected in this kind of hotel.

Breakfast was really good I thought - much better than I was expecting given previous reviews. Some of the characters from Madagascar film were present too which the kids loved.

There is an area in hotel lobby with bean-bags for kids to watch 'disney-type' movies.
I suppose two moans about this - TV is a bit quiet, and it's not in sight of bar area.

There was also a programme of kids entertainment in hotel - face painting, stories, crafts etc - this was in lobby and some function rooms.
I think a mini-disco would have been a good addition.

Shop in lobby with toys / sweets / etc.
Views at back of hotel to the Safari area of chessington - where there are deer and ostrich to see from the hotel (I guess more animals come near the hotel in summer) there is a nice terrace and viewing area here too.

Overall a great family hotel.
The rooms are much, much better than comparable hotels at alton towers, food & service much better too although entertainment could be improved a bit.

We paid £79 for one night which included Bed, Breakfast, and park tickets for 4.
I think that's amazing value!

Room Tip: Ask for room at the back of the hotel overlooking safari bit rather than car park!
