This was our first visit to the newly revamped Hart of Harwell and we came with a big family group. The refitting has been very well done and the bar and lounge are attractive and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and efficient but had the place been more busy with just two people in the bar and serving in the restaurant, they would have been over-stretched. The food was OK, it's pub grub but reading the menu one might think that this was a gastro pub. Whitebait was a popular starter for our group but deep frying whitebait until it neither looks like or tastes like very small fish was an indication of the standard. The size of the servings of olives and bread with the starters was not generous for the price charged. The wine list is well chosen and reasonably priced but if you order three bottles of a wine at the higher end of the price range it's nice to get a look at the bottle before it's opened and then taste it before it's served.
