Been a few years since last visit... changed or what! Gone up market ( discourage the boozers ) and it is gained a nice presentation. We went for the "picky" bits.... Pate, Whitebait etc and a nice bottle of Blush wine.... all very pleasant

OK, I have been away from the UK for a while but 6.45 for a 250ml glass of white wine in a pub in Enfield just inside the M25? Unbelievable. Anyway we were meeting a friend and having a bite to eat. We decided on the 4 dishes to share which were very nice. The waitress was friendly and efficient. I used to go to this pub over 20 years ago and times have changed. It has been decorated well and is open and airey. These pubs are not so much pubs anymore but eateries that serve food.

This is a very nice pub located in a rural area on the edge of Enfield, a few minutes drive from the M25. It is nicely laid out, with a terraced area to the rear that catches the sun as well quite a large beer garden with plenty of tables. Strangely they do not take bookings for less than 6 people which is not very helpful but I suppose ensure you get there early, which you have to on a Sunday as it is packed by around 1.30pm. The food was good - a very nice traditional roast and another of us had lovely fish and chips, although I must admit a couple of extra slices of the roast beef would not have gone amiss. So while the food was very nice, the pub and garden excellent it is let down by the fact that the hard working staff were at times simply overwhelmed by the number of people wanting served. At times it had a slight Fawlty Towers feel about it - with staff seemingly all over the place trying to work out what to do next. At one point there were about 20 people all waiting at the bar to be served and only one person trying to cope. Maybe this was a one off, but that combined with the fact you can't book a table unless there is a big group might make me think twice about going back which is a shame as the food and ambience were good.

Daughter lives in the area and has used its sister pub the Jolly Farmer and found that good, so tried the Robin Hood and found this just as good.

Helpful and friendly staff and nothing too much trouble. Busy Sunday as expected but this was 2pm and customers still kept on coming. Judging by the standard of food and size of portions can understand why busy. Too full for dessert which looked good.

Worth a second visit
