I stayed at the travelodge for 3 nights for two reasons. One because it is near to where some of my family live but also because it was relatively cheaper than staying at a central London hotel. This travelodge can suit depending on your needs. It is a 10 minute walk to the nearest tube or there are buses you can take if preferred. The walk is pleasant. Southgate tube station is in zone 4 and you can only buy a zone 1-6 travel card, which isn't cheap (definitely better to buy an oyster card) and the journey into central London is 35 minutes. The rooms are basic but sufficient - there is a comfortable bed, some clothes hanging space a small but functional bathroom with good shower and warm water. Towels were provided but no shower gel etc. There was no hairdryer in the room but reception provided you with one when asking. There is a lovely little pub attached which serves very nice food, but the only thing I would say is that the beer garden to the pub is next to all of the rooms at the front of the travelodge and the rooms on ground level can definietly hear the noise, which will not be great on a summer evening when everyone is in the beer garden (we experienced the noise!)
Reception staff were extremely friendly and there was someone available 24/7 and there are also a couple of nice places for breakfast just a 2 minute walk away. If you don't mind basic and are trying to keep cost down and still visit London (with a 45 minute journey involved) then this travelodge is a perfectly adequate place to stay.
