“Meets the needs”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

I stayed at the travelodge for 3 nights for two reasons. One because it is near to where some of my family live but also because it was relatively cheaper than staying at a central London hotel. This travelodge can suit depending on your needs. It is a 10 minute walk to the nearest tube or there are buses you can take if preferred. The walk is pleasant. Southgate tube station is in zone 4 and you can only buy a zone 1-6 travel card, which isn't cheap (definitely better to buy an oyster card) and the journey into central London is 35 minutes. The rooms are basic but sufficient - there is a comfortable bed, some clothes hanging space a small but functional bathroom with good shower and warm water. Towels were provided but no shower gel etc. There was no hairdryer in the room but reception provided you with one when asking. There is a lovely little pub attached which serves very nice food, but the only thing I would say is that the beer garden to the pub is next to all of the rooms at the front of the travelodge and the rooms on ground level can definietly hear the noise, which will not be great on a summer evening when everyone is in the beer garden (we experienced the noise!)
Reception staff were extremely friendly and there was someone available 24/7 and there are also a couple of nice places for breakfast just a 2 minute walk away. If you don't mind basic and are trying to keep cost down and still visit London (with a 45 minute journey involved) then this travelodge is a perfectly adequate place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms at the back.

When we arrived at the southgate travelodge, we were greeted by a young lady who was really pleasant and friendly even with kids.then she gave us a room 20 and in fact took us to our room and gave all the information we needed and as we told her that we are here for time away that's when she gave that room and said it will be very quite and you can relax and told us about the places that we can visit. Through out our stay we was brilliant and all staff were great. On check out I asked her if her manager was available so could tell that how brilliant she is and found out she was the manager. I have stayed in a lot of travelodges but never saw a manager actually dealing with a customer. I would recommend this southgate travelodge as every one was great and had really good weekend. We will be coming back and we have made booking. And have advised our friends to go and stay at southgate for our family function in sept. Best travelodge so far.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

Booked a family room and had a nice view of the bowling green at the back through a tiny window.
Room was small, but clean enough and temperature was ok, if a tiny bit on the warm side.

Parking was a major problem as the car park is used for the pub/restaurant downstairs.
There is no service to speak of, just given a key.

But the real problem was the beds. My 14 year was so uncomfortable in his bed that he got out and laid on the floor. I persevered with the bed, but I was a virtual cripple the next day. The most uncomfortable hotel bed I've ever had.

We are very sorry to learn that your stay was marred by the condition of your mattress Ian B. We require our staff to regularly check the mattresses and, if one is not found to be in a suitable condition then it should be replaced. The hotel will be made aware of the feedback that you have left which will help support any improvements that need to be made.
