Awful! Shabby, unclean and unimpressive! Never have I been spoken to so rudely by a member of staff in an establishment such as this. The staff were dismissive and down right rude. After having stood at reception for more than 10 minutes we were then approached by a man who rudely questioned us on our reasons for being there and made it feel as though our being there was an inconvienience to him. We left without checking in at all....enough said.

Room Tip: Dont bother

This was awful! Room dirty and overlooking the rubbish bin store, cramped around bed. Duvet covers worn, split and marked - as was other bedding. Shower head calcified and stained, cubicle not impressive either. Towel-rail power lead in bathroom attached with tape. Doors heavy and noisy. Taps loose. Carpet in bathroom very dirty. Cobwebs hanging from ceiling. Archaic television with failed remote. Worn furnishings throughout.

The only service received was on arrival, and that was scant. Spent 2 nights (could not get room in a proper hotel before then) and saw no-one except when retrieving room key from the bar-person in the restaurant (who didn't know us but gave us the key without verifying identity) as the reception was closed (did not see it open at any time). No help getting taxi or with luggage (up/down steps) or with absolutely anything! Very poor!!!

Only thing going for this place is it's location for the town.

Room Tip: Check EVERYTHING very carefully

Fortunately we only had to stay here for one night. The stuffed foxes in the foyer did not endear us but we checked in anyway. The first room we were offered had not been hoovered so we went back to reception. The staff were hugely apologetic and we were given the key to another room - which also hadn't been hoovered. Eventually we were given the keys to a clean room.
The next problem was the lack of ventilation. Our room was at the front of the building near a main road so understandably there was double glazing. However it was totally sealed and there was no way of ventilating the room which was far too hot. We were told that we could check out at no charge but as it was 10.30 pm and we needed to be up early we had to stay. It was hot and uncomfortable all night and felt very unhealthy. We woke to find the invoice under the door for the full cost of the room and a bar bill which had already been taken by debit card.
The plus points to this hotel are its location, car parking, friendly staff and the lovely conservatory attached to the bar area. The down sides are that it is dated and clearly needs investment in modern appliances such as vacuum cleaners and air conditioning.

This was our second time staying at the Overcliffe Hotel.
I have to admit we stay here out of convenience rather than any great loyalty to the hotel as it's only a few minutes walk from Gravesend town centre and the fast train to London.
The ambience of the hotel is lovely although it does lack some obvious upgrades such as the bathrooms. I get the impression they use a handyman for their maintanance rather than a professional due to the finish of things such as tiled (un-grouted) panels in the bathroom etc...
The personnel of the hotel are nice and friendly, although they are hard to find sometimes as the reception seems to be manned sporadically.
We didn't eat here this trip but went down to the bar late in the evening as it's a very pleasant area to relax in. Drinks aren't too expensive for a hotel either.
The rooms are comfortable and clean and this time we had a view of the back garden which is nice.
All in all, a pleasant one night stay which I dare say we will do again next we're in Gravesend.

Room Tip: Don't take the room next to the reception.

Staff helpful if not a little excentric .... Breakfast very nice BUT ..... rooms awful, old and outdated. Old fittings, horrible heating/hot water and very dirty carpets. Had to use towels to walk on when leaving (outdated) shower as floor so unclean.

The Overcliffe Hotel helped make my stay in Gravesend memorable.
I cannot say enough about the staff. They were kind and warm. I am grateful for all the help they provided me during my stay.
When I was down and having a bad day, they were there to cheer me up.
The food in the restaurant is not cheap, but it is worth it. Absolutely delcious.
Thanks to all the staff at the Overcliffe for such a lovely stay.
