We were visting friends staying in Harrow-on-the-Hill, and the Old Etonian is just 5 minutes from their place. We stayed a total of 11 nights on 2 seperate occassions, in July & August of this year.

What can I say about the hotel? When we first arrived, my friend had to ring Mr. Pele, the proprietor, who came down the street to let us in. We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), the only room available when we arrived (which was pre-booked) was on the first floor with one double bed and one single bed - we had to somehow accomodate in this. However, it might have been the honeymoon suite, because the shower room only had transparent glass, not even a curtain! I had to send my wife and daughter down for breakfast before I could shower.

Anyway, Mr. Pele did move us after 2 days into a room with 2 beds and a bathroom with a door. Breakfast was adequate without being fancy, and that's exactly what the hotel was too.

If I were harsh, there's so many things that were not upto standard. But overall, we didn't mind the gaps (sic) so much as we were only there for the nights. And overall, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff, including Mr. Pele, were all very courteous and polite.

The place has potential because it enjoys a great location close to Harrow School. With a little bit more thought, it can be a really nice place to stay at.

Recommended but go with limited expectations!

I cannot rate The Old Etonian Hotel highly enough. Customer Service far beyond expectations. Cuisine that deserves a michelin star. Panoramic views - a joy to admire night or day. Wish I could have stayed longer. I don't think it can get better.

We stayed for one night - thankfully - in this hotel based in the lovely village of Harrow on the Hill. When we tried to get into the hotel we couldn't, and had to phone for someone. Next we saw a man walking down the street eating a sandwich who proceeded to let us into the hotel and showed us our allocated room. The room was very, very small, with hardly any room between the ends of the double bed and the walls. The bedside table consisted of a 'TV table' and there was only one bedside table facility and only one desk lamp. My partner was unable to read the paper as there was no light on his side of the bed or table. The tea making facilities were laughable - no teaspoons to be seen and the kettle was full of limescale! There was one lone apple on a plate and a large fork. What that was for I do not know, but I did have to use it to stir my tea and take my tea-bag out of the cup. The curtains were hanging off the rail and the secondary double glazing unit was off one of the windows leaving it very draughty and had been placed outside the room. The roller blind on this window was broken and had to be manually re-wound in the morning. The wardrobe had spare pillows in it which did not have cases on them and were stained from previous use. Houskeeping in the room left a lot to be desired and it was obvious that only the bit of carpet that could be seen had been cleaned. The wardrobe was made of louvre doors and was something out of a DIY disaster and partly covered an access hatch into the roof. Breakfast was a farce! There was some nice fresh fruit and yoghurts available, and when I asked for tea for two, two mugs were ceremoniously plonked on the table. I then asked for milk for the tea and was told it was 'over there' meaning on the main breakfast serving table in a large jug which had to be carried over to the table. I thought it was overpriced at £80 bed and breakfast as there was no choice of a cooked breakfast. There are no other B and B's/hotels on The Hill and there is a fantastic opportunity for someone to open up something as competition for this awful place!

Staying at the Old Etonian was like a scene from a French farce - an inevitable characterization given that ' le patron' appears to be French and it has a French bistro beneath it. Having gained entry to the hotel at about 1700 on a Sat pm by way of someone emerging as we arrived at the door, we could raise nobody to attend to us by either shouting 'anybody here' or ringing on the door bell. We resorted to ringing directory enquiries in order to get the hotel's tel number. For sometime directory enquiries persisted in saying that the hotel did not exist - we maintained that it certainly did as we were standing inside it! Finally we were given the number of the associated restaurant. There was no reply on this so we left the hotel with the intention of seeking another hotel as soon as possible as we had a dinner engagement in less than 2 hours time. On leaving the hotel we saw in a window a notice giving two numbers to ring if the hotel entrance was closed - one of them was the restaurant number already tried; the other number did produce the proprietor/manager coming down the street in a couple of minutes with profuse apologies.
On being shown to our room, much was made of the fruit, biscuits and tea/coffee available. Only when we came to try to make a quick cup of coffee while getting ready did we discover that there was only one cup and no milk.
On returning to the room later in the evening we found that the bedside lamp and clock were unplugged and there was no socket anywhere near them. Next morning we found an extension lead jammed away behind the bottom of the bed.
Continental breakfast was very reasonable although served with unthinking perfunctory politeness eg no milk on table for tea and coffee, guests were expected to take their cups to a side table and help themselves from a large jug; toast plonked down on the table without being requested even though croissants and other confectionaries were available.
Finally the hotel description mentioned parking available – but only if you are good at squeezing into limited street spaces on a sloping road at the rear of the hotel.
To provide balance, the room was very clean and the bed comfortable but we shall be in the area frequently in coming months - we shall use chains where you get what you pay for, not our experience at this establishment.

We have just had a lovely weekend staying at The Old Etonian. We found it really easy to get into the centre of London but really enjoyed getting back to Harrow on The Hill for a little peace and quiet... Harrow O.T.H is a lovely place. There are a handful of nice places to eat including the French Bistro downtairs from the B+B. The blues bar up the road is lovely for cocktails and a lovely meal too.
We were visiting relatives in H.O.T.H but would definately return to this place. We considered it to be a find !!
