“Beautiful surroundings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

We stayed here on 28th and 29th May, not in the best of circumstances (father's funeral). We stayed in room 109. On this occasion we did not eat in the restaurant on the two evenings. The breakfast was lovely, you could choose a full cooked English breakfast, omelettes, fish. There were cereals and a vast selection of fruit juices. Toast, butter, jam, honey and marmalade. Coffee and tea was also on offer.
The room was very comfortable. The car park was just outside so when leaving it was easy to just put your cases in the car.
The reception staff, waiters and bar staff were very helpful.
We recently returned to the hotel on 13th July, we were booked into the same room 109, what a coincidence. On this occasion we sat outside in the beautiful gardens in the afternoon. In the evening we had a meal in the restaurant, it was superb, mushroom brochette and chicken liver parfait to start. Sea bass and salmon with green vegetables and potatoes. A bottle of wine was £19.50 and a bottle of sparkling water £3.95
As we had not booked breakfast we had to pay £9.50 each for the privilege, which is quite expensive.
We could not fault this lovely peaceful hotel and hope that one day we may be able to return.
Thank you.

We stayed for a two night stay in July. We were not in the main hotel. It was clean but so hot. No aircon at all. Couldn't sleep. A wedding was going on in the main building so it was very noisy. The food is appalling. We sent our breakfast back as it was stone cold! And also very expensive. Better off going Into the town for a costa breakfast!! Unable to get a reservation in the restaurant for dinner so found a lovely pub over the road for a third if the price!! Conclusion: ripped off, far too hot in all the rooms, food cold, service very slow...

As you enter the gates into the Best Western Grim`s Dyke hotel you say wow, as you hit this stunning looking house its another wow. Check in was so easy with a lovely receptionist and then it was to my room, that was a short walk from the hotel as many of the rooms are about
a 2 to 3 min walk. I open my bed room door room 106 and then its wow this is amazing room
a garden room with a jacuzzi and a garden patio just so so lovely. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel was very good and very helpful staff. The grounds the gardends are just stunning this place to me really does have the wow factor, you can even pop inn for afternoon tea.

Room Tip: Room 106 is just lovely book it today

We recently visited the restaurant although I don't wish to say the exact time for reasons which will become apparent. Modest menu to choose from, at a reasonable price.
Food was quite good, and the service was very attentive, in fact it was excellent.
When we came to pay we were told very clearly and openly by a staff member that if the tip was included on the credit card payment that is the last the staff would see of it. If this is the case it is wrong!
The explanation was completely open, not in a hush so that no one else could hear it. We therefore left a cash tip as the service truly warranted it.
We understand this hotel is run under a franchise so it is the franchisee who may have taken the decision to withhold tips included on the credit card payments from the staff. We have taken what we have been told at face value, it may be wrong, but to be sure the staff get a tip when it is warranted we recommend you to pay it in cash.
Incidentally the grounds where the hotel and restaurant are located are really beautiful, worth allowing some extra time to walk around.

The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are comfortable. The staff is great, friendly, and helpful. The area is peaceful with beautiful gardens. Even when we had to leave early the restaurant staff offered to make us sandwiches to go. The only thing is if you want to go to Central London, the distance is a bit far and requires taking a taxi then the train. But if you want to rest and relax, it is a great option.

Fantastic hotel with friendly staff, well worth a stay, food of a very good quality. I stopped in one of the rooms in the annex, very modern, very clean, I've look at all the other reviews and cant believe some of the comments, like I say the staff are very friendly and helpful,

Room Tip: Try the room with the balconies and Jacuzzi bath, modem and spacious
