The this is great place to visit! Always a really good choice of ales & ciders in a super atmosphere.
Food very good - although not cheap and portion size could be a bit more generous!
Small patio at the back which is quite shady - nice and cool in summer, chilly at any other time though!

We go to the Black Jug for drinks quite a lot - they have a fantastic selection of whiskies and a great wine list. I always seem to be served by knowledgeable staff who are friendly and welcoming. I don't eat there often as I had a bad experience once, but last night we went for dinner with friends and it was fantastic! I had scallops followed by battered haddock and chips. The scallops were cooked beautifully, I was really pleased with the dish and the haddock and chips were lovely, with nice crispy batter and minted peas. Normally you order your food at the bar which is a bit of a pain but this time our order was taken at the table. I hope this is going to be a permanent service as it makes the experience so much nicer. One very happy customer.

Arrived on a Monday evening, having not booked a table. Expected to see a virtually empty pub, but surprised to see it buzzing with eaters and drinkers. Always a good thing. Nothing worse than being the only ones in the place.
The host/manager could not have been more pleasant. Found us a table, and let me sample some of the beers before making a choice. Great selection of ale, and whiskey, as well as the usual drinks.
Food was good, and arrived in good time. Only small complaint would be, that the chips were not great. Otherwise mains and puddings all good. Waitress friendly and courteous.
£128.00 for 5 people, mains and desserts with 1 and a half rounds of drinks.
Will go again.

Went with friends on recommendation of one of the party. Great selection of beers in bar including Harvey's best. Menu somewhat predictable but well prepared dishes and an excellent cheese board. The let down was staff with no clue "is Sauvignon blanc red or white" etc etc and no sense of what it means to do an good job. It was a Saturday night and very busy. So we will go back but prob not on a sat eve when we can always go to one of high quality chains in Horsham

We booked a table for two as this pub had been highly recommended and were asked to get there for 18.45. We arrived on time and were told where our table was, we took our seats and waited. There was a large table and another smaller table, the waitress had finished serving them and stood by the bar talking to her friend, we waited until 19.00 and left letting her know that we could not wait for her to finnish her conversation before acknowledging that we were even there. We went to Cotes had a lovely meal with excellent service instead.
