“Happy Anniversary”
Reviewed 21 October 2013 via mobile

Having had our wedding here 7 years ago (which was perfection), The Stanneylands is our favourite place to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment you enter you are made to feel welcome and special. Eamon and his team are absolutely faultless. Eamon greets you like an old friend, and indeed, that is how you can't help but think of him.
As always the food was wonderful. Getting those little extras just right that make all the difference between 'going out for food' and having a really special evening.
Huge, huge thank you. See you again soon.

“Winner was correct”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

MIchael WInner - RIP - gave Stannylands a bad review several years ago but we decided to try it and went for the tasting menu.Main course was Sea Bass which was perfectly cooked but let down by a plateful of white beans and chorizo which made the dish very dry.Service was ok but staff were poorly dressed and not professional enough for a supposedly top eaterie. We had an apperative in the bar which was empty and alhtough we drew attention to th dirty table it wsan't cleaned so we moved. The barman went taking to the receptioneist instead and then served our meal. The car park was full yet the restauarant was barely 50% so I guss the hotel residents prefered eating elsewhere. This hotel/restauarnt is in the same chain as Nunsmere Hall near Winsford which is far superior in every way to its Wilslow sibling. Not an easy place to get to if you come from the M56.Maybe our expecations were too high.

“Still the best food ....outstanding taste and flavour.”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

We have dined here for several years but had not been for a while. We went for Saturday lunch and the food was as great as in the past. The cooking is wonderful...fine dining and yet so moorish and truly delicious. No gimmicks, nothing overly fancy just great ingredients put together with expertise and attention to detail. You can taste every single flavour and this is as good as the best comfort food. Do not expect a huge menu , it is not Stanneylands style , but you get a small menu of delightful individual dishes which zing with taste and flavour. The Oak Room is a beautiful dining room and the service is relaxed and unobtrusive. We had 3 exceptional courses for an unbelievable £18.50, yes £18 50 for this level of cooking in a beautiful setting. THE BEST FOOD FOR MANY A YEAR.

“Perfect venue for our wedding”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

We recently held our wedding at Stanneylands - both the ceremony and the reception. We had a fantastic day and it was perfect in every way. The food was delicious and the Oak room was an ideal size for our reception. Liz was very helpful in the planning leading up to the day and Eammon was fantasic with all the arrangements on the actual day - nothing was too much trouble and we knew we could simply relax and enjoy ourselves. All our guests commented very positively on the food and service and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else

“Excellent venue let down by service”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

This hotel was owned for many years by the Beech family and some years ago taken over by the Prima Hotel group, who have not continued the fantastic service formerly enjoyed by the clientele
We have eaten both at lunch times, in the evenings and also held parties in the Oak room.

Our recent visit one evening however was disappointing particularly as a result of the poor service we experienced from the moment we arrived.

At reception a man, seated, said "Can I help you", and we said we had arrived for dinner and was there anywhere we could leave our coats.

Still seated he said "take them over there and someone may be able to help you"

We made our way towards the restaurant, as we knew where it was,and no one offered any offer of assistance and I placed our coats on a nearby chair. There was no chance of drinks before dinner as there was nobody serving in the bar !!!

We made our way into the restaurant and were seated and given menu's but no wine list.

Meals selected and eventually the wine chosen which was poured out without confirming my choice and giving me a sample to try -amazement all round !!

Food was only very average and of table d'hote choice even though we ate a la carte.

We shall not be returning, particularly as a result of the overall poor service, and only very average food.
