“Terrible Room :-(”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2008

We stayed at the Stanneylands on a Friday night, paying £60 for room only and im afraid i feel totally ripped off! Ill start with the good bits....... I had booked the restaurant and it seemed they did a deal of £24.50 for 3 courses, wine and coffee, this was all very nice and value for money considering the average price of a main course was £20+!!! Crazy or what?! Starters averaged out about £9.... Now for the bad bits.......We were put in room 101 - this is THE worst room in the hotel (I hope), situated on the ground floor right next to the toilets, you can hear the toilet doors banging and the flush. The hotel was practically empty so i dont know why we were put there. Anyway, one of the curtains was hanging off , and the bed had two great craters in it (mustve been one of those "memory mattresses"!!!) Not being one to cause a fuss, I let this go only because I didnt want to ruin the night.
I was soooo looking forward to a nice lay in being the start of the bank holiday weekend :-) but we were woken out of our "craters" at 7am by the catering company unloading boxes outside the window, this was proceeded by the bottle bank being emptied at 7.45. Naturally - or not - we were awake by now - good job because at 8.15 the housekeeper wanted to clean the room!! Oh and there was no remote control.
I explained all of this to the receptionist who wasnt interested at the time. The manager has since called me back to say he hopes it wouldnt put us off staying again.. hermmmm. Im afraid it has. Please please please stay somewhere else!

We decided to have breakfast during a weekend stay for a family wedding. It was not included in the price of the room. Biggest rip-off ever. £14.95 for cooked breakfast and £10.95 for Continental. Buffet for continental was sparse, empty fruit salad bowls and empty fruit platter, no fresh bread or rolls, a plate of meat but nothing for vegetarians - no eggs, cheese, fruit yoghurt s etc..
People were waiting for breakfast items in the cooked breakfast buffet having to visit 2 or 3 times to get the items they wanted eg. mushrooms. Staff were miserable and a little officious, I just don't think they were coping. Very, very disappointing and a very poor deal for the over-inflated price the hotel charged.

This hotel has a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are of a good size and very clean. The hotel is in a perfect location and has great surroundings. Next time i visit Wilmslow i will book to stay here again. The town is lovely and the people very friendly.

The restaurant for this hotel received a really good review, however, the food was poor to say the least, undercooked and cold. The price was ridiculous. Rooms were comfortable but small, the central heating was very noisy. Booked a wake up call for 6am, however, we didn't receive it until 6.15!! Take your own wine as the prices are very high!!

Following a mix up with our booking at another local hotel we contacted The Stanneylands Hotel with a late request for two quiet bedrooms. Success - on arrive at the hotel all seemed well, the rooms were small but clean and adequate and our bathroom was updated and smart. However after dinner at a local restaurant we returned to the hotel to find two weddings parties in progress and our 'quiet' room was in the middle of the two function rooms. The noise was intrusive and I asked to be moved. We were offered another room which was quieter but not so smart with an outdated bathroom but at least we could sleep.
However, something happened at breakfast the next day which had never happened to us before. On a Sunday morning breakfast was served between 7.30am and 10.00am (who wants breakfast at 7.30am on a Sunday?) and we arrived at 9.45am. We sat down and helped ourself to juice and cereal, however when we went to get our cooked breakfast we found the area was being cleared of food (it was exactly 10.00am). The staff were less than helpful, as far as they were concerned they had been there since before 7.30am and their shift was finished. A ridiculous situation - even the bride and her mother who came down at 10.05am were turned away. This hotel could be so much better and the staff happier by making a few minor changes.

Stayed for a night as part of a wedding party. The hotel and grounds were lovely; the food was great; the rooms modern and good value for money.

The service was a little haphazard, but nothing serious.

My son and daughter-in-law have just had their wedding reception at Stanneylands and I can honestly say I could not fault this hotel or the staff. Everything about the day was absolutely perfect. Eamonn who organised everything for the day was wonderful, the wedding breakfast was superb - the meal was fabulous and the waiting on staff were brilliant; the bedroom elegant, the wedding reception room beautiful (I was glad of the air conditioning as it turned out to be a very warm day!).On Sunday morning the breakfast was delicious, ok a little pricey, but well worth it! My son and daughter-in-law used the hotel's flower arranger, dj and MC and again, all were simply superb. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone! What a wonderful day, thank you very very much.
