“stairs and poor layout - otherwise would be brilliant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2013

This place is great on paper - been quite a few times and each time frustrated about having to lift my push chair into the building, find a parking space for it (and then manoeuvre buggy with at least four others to extracate it when leaving) and then walking up stairs with toddler, one other and bag. BUT at the top of stairs is wonderland. My toddler loves it. Difficult when busy because cannot find a seat with direct visual on play area so slightly more stressful than when quiet but lovely place for children to play...and coffee good. Could do with revamped seating such that constant visual of play area possible. Wouldn't take much to make this superb -toilets are even lovely ...just three flights of stairs in opposite direction/.

“Fantastic for eating out with young children.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013

I love this place, we now go regularly. My two boys love the play areas on both the ground floor and upstairs and it usually hard to drag them away. The food is excellent and freshly made. The staff are all really helpful with the little ones and the restaurant is clean. It's so nice to go somewhere with the little ones where you don't need to worry that they are being too noisy, or having to make them sit down when all they want to do us get down and have a play. It's also great that they serve alcohol for that occasional treat when I go with my husband. Only downside for us is that the toilets are downstairs, but even with that there is no where else in Wilmslow as good for children.

“Wouldn't rave”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2013

Went to the Mulberry Bush cafe with a baby. Was immediately unimpressed as there are two steps at the front door to get in. Surely having easy access (e.g. A ramp?) to a "child friendly" cafe is a must given that many people will have prams and buggies. To be fair there was a sign on the door saying to ring a bell if you wanted help with pushchairs - but it served to make my first impression of this place not a good one! Once in the cafe it seemed relatively cramped downstairs with not a lot of space to have your pram by the table.

Staff seemed friendly enough. Food was average.

This is meant to be a good place for children - maybe it hits the spot for toddlers but if youre looking for somewhere to meet your other mum friends if youve all got babies and prams I'd opt for Hoopers cafe instead!

“Mixed views”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2013

Visited on Mothers Day (late afternoon) as part of a large family group. I'll start with the positives - the place is designed for families with younger children and there is a large playhouse, dressing up clothes and a range of other toys etc for the kids to enjoy. I also enjoed the chiken ceasar salad which was one of the best Ive had when eating out - use of anchovies in the dish always shows they are trying their best!

Onto the negatives - quite a few of our group had the afternoon tea package at £13.99 - however portions were small, choice of sandwiches very limited and cakes a little stale. In short it was poor value! The food was served on a tiered afternoon tea server but no plates were offered (used paper serviettes!) and not enough saucers available for the tea cups. All told the srvice was slow and the presentation poor. Yes it was a busy day but when we arrived late afternoon the place was quitening down.

The premises are on three levels - top floor is restaurant area, ground floor is bar and basement is toilets. There should be a toilet on top floor but it was out of order thus it was a long trek to the basement loos.

Overall Id recommend to those with young children but avoid the set afternoon teas and go for either a good quality salad or the cooked meals which offer better value.

Service is not quick so dont go if you are in a rush.

Elderly or infirm patrons will struggle with all the stairs.

“Great with toddlers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013 via mobile

This is a great little cafe to go to with toddlers. They have loads of clean, wooden toys set up for them to play with whilst you enjoy a drink and a catch up in some kind of peace! Only problem is it closes at 5pm although they are not that strict on that. Staff were great with our boys. Didnt try the food other than a bowl of fries and a cake (healthy!) and they were very nice. We will be back quite often I suspect.
