“Excellent stay NYE”
Reviewed 1 January 2014 via mobile

Stayed here after enjoying the NY celebrations at the coach & four. Smooth check in, friendly staff. Room was lovely & spacious. Very comfortable bed. The meal in the pub was fantastic & the staff were brilliant! Making sure everyone who had booked a table had enough drinks etc which was great as meant we didn't have to que at the bar. Breakfast in the morning was superb! Will definietly return!

My room was booked by my son along with my other son who also stayed. We ate lunch there which was ok. We went out for dinner in the evening. Upon our return the pub was heaving due to entertainment being on. We found seats and were asked to move because they were setting tables for breakfast 2100 the previous evening. We explained we were residents. We were still asked to move. Even though there were no other seats in the place. Breakfast......well we returned all of it it was dry. And burnt Bad real bad it is the worst breakfast we have ever been served. The watress apologised and said they would provide us with fresh we declined they said that they would reimburse the card. My family do meet up regularly because we live all over the country/world I can honestly say that this establishment will be avoided at all cost.

I slated this place last time I stayed as it was desperately in need of modernisation, especially the bathrooms. I read that a major refurbishment had been undertaken but having stayed this weekend I think this perhaps applies more to the pub than the hotel. There's no doubt that the rooms have been given a bit of a spruce up and the very worst aspects of the bathrooms have been upgraded - it looked like new taps and plugs had been put in place, the decaying soap/shower gel dispensers have been replaced and perhaps attempts had been made at regrouting and replacing the worst of the tiles. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping to see greater improvements in the bathrooms. Please please replace the bathrooom floors and shower heads - these things thing would make the entire bathroom look so much better. I am happy to give an 'average' rating now as for £90 for two nights this hotel is good value and I would stay again for the convenience of the location to my friends' house.

Have normally had a good experience at this newly refurbished restaurant. For some reason it just didn't happen this time. The refurbishment is lovely, a nice environment. The staff did their best to accommodate us and were very nice. We ordered drinks and then food. The food took 45 minutes to arrive which is a long time when you're hungry ! It got to the point where we had to go to reception to ask how much longer it was going to be. When it arrived one of the meals (Chicken Burger) had cold chips with it and the chicken was as tough as old boots. Couldn't eat it really. The other two meals were really good (risotto and the stuffed chicken). When the waitress asked was everything ok with our meal we had to say no, not really. She did apologise and explained that it had been 'manic' tonight and did we want to see the desert menu. 'No, not really just the bill please' . To her credit she returned and said she would deduct 25 % off the bill which was a nice gesture. Strikes me that this is a really nice place to eat normally with good food and drink but for some reason when it gets 'manic' things can go wrong.

Hi there,

On this occasion we did get things wrong and it was a bit manic. I hope the 25% we took off your bill helped and we hope you return soon.

We arrived and checked in to the Wilmslow Lodge. The receptionist was very helpful given us tips to look for deals if we were to book again, Don't know what we expected, everything was so central. The Coach and Four is straight across from the lodge. Lovely bar. We booked in the room was freezing but didn't take long to warm up. The room was lovely. The bed was very comfortable.

We had a few drinks at the Coach and Four, we ordered some lunch which was very nice.

I would recommend the hotel as it walking distance to the town.

Sunday lunch here was very enjoyable in the newly refurbished annexe, which is light and airy compared to eating in the main part of the pub. Plenty of choice on the menu, very reasonably priced. Service was cheerful and no complaints about the speed. Altogether a very pleasant experience.

Same old modern tricks to make a stingy meal look more than it was...

The tiny portion of flavoirless cod was put on top of 11 (eleven) chips. They also pulled that trick of putting the mushy peas in a small pot on the plate next to another plate of tartars sauce. Another pretentious (and utterly pointless) touch, was to grill the slice of lemon. It was either £10 or £11 - either way it was a lot to pay for a small helping of fast food the speed of service did impress me tbh, but it betrayed their lack of care for cooking (the place was choc full as well).
Decor was your bog standard pastelle modern country look, nothing special but pleasant enough.
Beer - a fair range but not well kept.
Go to Weatherspoon's if you want food of this quality.

Dear Sir
I’m Matthew Abbott the General Manager. I’m disappointed a 10oz (bigger than your average chippy) piece of fresh cod, hand battered in our homemade beer batter, served with 11 hand cut fresh door stop chips & 4oz of mushy peas did not fill you. There’s nothing modern about homemade fish and chips and the homemade tartar sauce that accompanies it. Maybe it was the grilled half a lemon that maybe made it so.
