“Superb Location”
Reviewed 13 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Very pleasant accommodation with fantastic views across the estuary. The location is excellent with everything you need within walking distance. What I really loved was the quaint development that it sits in, it really created a holiday feel. I would happily go again.

“Great stay”
Reviewed 10 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Cottage was lovely, easy to find and in a beautiful area! Never visited Portishead before as didn't know it existed but the area with the marina and surrounding bars is so pretty! Cottage is well equipped and comfortable enough for our group of 4 adults, two of whom were pregnant, two young children and a dog :)

“So dirty we checked out two nights early. Do not stay here.”

I booked the Fisherman’s Cottage for myself, my wife and our 5 year old son. During the booking process we had a lot of helpful communication with Tracee (the owner’s sister) who is lovely and we were very excited for our stay, (29th March – 1st April 2016). Now we know the Easter period was busy for the cottage, there were people booked in the nights before and after, so we don’t know if the cottage received less of a clean in between guests than it normally would, but it was disgusting. Upon arrival we were so disappointed. The floors throughout were dirty, there was a build-up of dirt and dust around the property, balls of dust behind doors, mould in the fridge, the sofa was so stained and uncomfortable that we couldn't sit on it. My wife and I spent about an hour cleaning to try and make it usable, all the cutlery and crockery had to be washed, I vacuumed throughout the cottage. Needless to say this was not at all what we had expected for £70 a night. Our son got some kind of bites along the back of his thighs, we can only assume from playing on the grubby floors. After this terrible start to the holiday we could not wait to go to bed and start fresh tomorrow, however the mattress on the master bed was awful. It is hard and lumpy and the bed creaks, and the cottage is freezing at night, and the boiler makes a very loud noise all night which kept everyone awake. By 3am we all gave up on sleep and decided to go home that day, despite having paid for a further two nights. It was the worst holiday we’d ever had. We emailed Tracee to inform her we had to check out early due to the cottage’s unacceptable level of uncleanliness and to request a refund for the further two nights we had paid for but not stayed, and she was very apologetic and said she would contact the cleaning company and inform her brother Dean (the property’s owner). After a lot of chasing up on our part we eventually received an abrupt email declining us any reimbursement from Dean, who is now ignoring any further messages from us. The whole thing was a disappointing nightmare and I wouldn’t recommend the Fisherman’s Cottage to anyone. It is such a shame because the cottage could be beautiful, it’s quaint, in a great location, and had perfect views, but once inside its clear the owners are trying to get away with the bare minimum and it shows.

“Peaceful and perfectly placed”
Reviewed 1 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

This was my second visit to this perfectly placed little cottage. It was good the first time round, and the second visit did not disappoint. The walks around the marina, the views, the nearby pubs and restaurants all make this an ideal cottage for a short break. The cottage is quiet, warm and comfortable with parking right outside.

“Very comfortable stay”
Reviewed 9 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Visiting Bristol for a long weekend / wedding, and decided to stay here rather than a city centre hotel. Proved to be an excellent decision. The cottage is warm, quiet, comfortable and well furnished. The location is excellent, with great views over the Severn estuary (on Sunday morning we were treated to a practice helicopter / lifeboat rescue!). It's a good place to walk around - both up the marina where Waitrose is very handy, and further afield, for example we walked down to the Windmill and enjoyed a drink there, again with great views. All communication with the owners was very well handled. One mark deducted as the cottage is a bit dusty, and also the wifi is intermittent (piggybacking a neighbouring BT homehub I think, so just about usable for simple stuff like emails and checking opening times, if you have a BT login).

“Enjoyable stay over the Christmas period”
Reviewed 6 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We have just returned from a 9 night stay at the cottage, which was most enjoyable. With family close by it was the ideal location for us, and the cottage itself was very comfortable. The views are lovely, it was very relaxing to open the curtains and see the water and watching the lifeboat station was interesting. The cottage is well equipped and the local shops and restaurants are within a good walking distance. We travelled with our small children who really enjoyed their stay, and a couple of extra special christmas touches from the owners made it very magical for them. We will definitely be returning to the cottage for future stays.

“Very convenient and comfortable”

Ideal for the two of us but equipped for a family. If you plan to arrive after dark I suggest taking a torch - without one it's difficult to open the key box.
