Good food, ok coffee great venue. Well priced wine to take away.
Dogs not allowed?... Good should not be in a cafe/restaurant anyway. This is a cafe not Battersea dogs home.

Gave this cafe another go last week as I live very close and its location next to the marina is very scenic. Had a light lunch of mozzarella and tomato salad plus an Americano coffee. The salad arrived on a small, side-plate-sized wooden board (what's wrong with a plate?). You need to like tomatoes - a lot - to enjoy this salad as I counted nine vine tomatoes with just a little cheese and not much else all crowded on to the little board. As when I ate here last time they overdid the oil - the salad was swimming in it, and the taste of the oil was vile and 'fatty'. This time however the coffee was better as I was offered strong or weaker coffee, and the strong was not bad. The service was OK but nothing special. There is not much choice of cakes which is disappointing, and what there is isn't that great. I really want this place to be good but I am not going to bother again.

My friend and I visited for a quick cuppa with a dog and two children. I had a tiny puppy, Sichon, with me and the weather changed dramatically. The rain was torrential and after paying for our mini bites and drinks the staff stated that she couldn't sit with us near the door on my lap as shelter from the rain and cold. My friend frequents the establishment w/a mother and baby group and stated that she would relay the lack of customer service to her friends. It is a tiny deli with large doors and hard wood floor that should be more dog friendly in Portishead. Disappointed.

This little cafe/restaurant has been through several names over the years due to a tricky location, but Chandos have finally got it right.

On entering you are presented with lots of cakes and a simple collection of toasties. Nothing too fancy but nicely done.

The staff are lovely and always friendly. The coffe is 'wogans' which is a very nice blend and not too strong.

You can also purchase a selection of Italian food and sauces should you wish. There are items you can't purchase from local supermarkets and add an interesting twist to the place.

Overall - great place for a coffe or hot chocolate. Lovely for a quick snack and the cakes are most tempting!

Decided to give this cafe another try for lunch as the view from the window over the marina is really pleasant with the boats, gulls, ducks, and swans, and I wanted to support a small local enterprise. Ordered a parma ham and tomato toastie, which arrived on a small wooden chopping board (is this hygienic?) with a small green salad garnish to the side. it turned out to be a truly horrid meal. The parma ham was really fatty, and the fat itself was yellow and slightly rancid looking on the edges. Because of the toasting, a huge amount of liquified fat ran out over the chopping board as a consequence. This was compounded by too much oil dressing on the salad. As I ate, a sea of oily fat ran over the sides of the chopping board - a truly queasy experience. The coffee was delivered in a huge mug and was watery and bitter. The only saving grace was the chocolate brownie and the fresh flower on the table. This place could be excellent and fill a definite niche position if the management upped its game, especially considering its great waterside location. The whole continental experience needs to go up a gear and be different (in a good way) from what you can get elsewhere in the area, the staff need to have much more personality and warmth and engage with the customers, the food needs to be much better quality and the coffee quality needs to exceed the free stuff which with a loyalty card you can get in the supermarket close by (and which is exceedingly nice coffee but delivered in a sterile environment). Managers, I could really shake you for squandering the opportunity here.
