Whats has happened to Romford Market went there Saturday half the stalls gone, some of the old stall holders still there but a lot have gone, something needs to be done fast before it disappears all together and we lose it for good .

The Romford Market of my childhood was a bustling and interesting place where you could buy anything from a pig to a handkerchief. There were many cattle pens, also puppies and kittens for sale. Stalls selling remnants and off-cuts of material, haberdashers, and others selling local produce (an original Farmer's Market). It was a real enjoyable experience for adults and children alike.

Not so now. The market place is surrounded by trendy flats and a prestigious landmark building (according to the council) which has never been finished and is still surrounded by scaffolding after 10 years!

The market is about a quarter of the size it used to be and sometimes can be as few at 10 stalls. There are several stalls selling produce 'a pound a bowl' and other vegetables/fruit which, I must say, is very good value. There are a couple of jewellery and bric-a-brac stalls and a few selling clothes and shoes and a couple of hot food stalls.

Not too many years ago people would get a weekly coach to Romford's Wednesday Market from North Norfolk and even further afield.

In my estimation the market is virtually non-existent and like everything else Havering Council touches, has turned to dust.

Such a shame to see such a brilliant facility die such an agonising death!

We love Romford market. Its always bustling with noise and chitter chatter. "Cum n get ya luvley veg...!!". There's lots of interesting things to buy. Lots of cheap and cheerful places to eat. Gofreys, the bakers at the end of the market, make a fantastic hot turkey sandwich. There are lots of historic buildings if you look carefully. The church in the market place is always worth a visit. A good few friendly pubs too!

i have lived in Romford for 70 years and watched this town grow and grow but the market isn't what it used to be.I never buy fruit or veg there as it doesn't keep as good as shop food. The clothes stalls now sell nearly all the same styles and are getting expensive so I go in the shops so I can try items on.It's a shame really because there is a lot of history about Romford. When I go on holiday to devon or dorset their markets are more interesting. The refurbished old shopping hall makes a visit worthwhile
