Premier Inn London Romford West Hotel
Ranked #2 of 6 Hotels in Romford

We chose this hotel because of its location (family wedding in the vicinity) and brand reputation - we have stayed in Premier Inns before and always found them to be good, solid value. There was a problem in that our room reeked of cigarette smoke and, the hotel being full, we could not be moved. However we were offered a refund for that night and were moved to a sweet smelling room the following day. As usual with Premier Inns, the rooms are fairly basic but the essentials are there, not least a comfortable bed and a good sized, spotlessly clean bathroom. We booked sufficiently in advance of our stay so we got a good rate - excellent value.
I'm a little surprised at the negative comments concerning the breakfast because we thought it was tremendously good value for money.
This hotel is, I think, really in Chadwell Heath within a mile or so of the railway station that has very good links to central London so it would be a good choice for visitors to the capital looking to save a pound or two without too much of a journey into town.

Room Tip: This hotel has no lifts - if you have mobility problems be sure to request a ground floor room when...

I concur with other comments: what makes this Premier Inn stand out is the warmth of the staff on Reception. We were given a room overlooking the car park; we returned from a party about 1.30am and didn't hear a peep all night. Only a 3 star as the breakfast was truly terrible and reminded me of the old days when budget hotels just made you feel sad. Food looked tired and unappealing under hot plates; scrambled eggs looked watery. Don't even get me started on the coffee - these days when we are used to decent coffee, how can they continue to serve revolting coffee which I am certain was instant? But, the location of the hotel is handy for the QE!II Bridge and Ilford/Romford.

Although the room was clean and spacious - it cost £85 for the night including breakfast. The breakfast was not as advertised in the room. When I asked where the fruit salad was, I was told that although a Premier Inn, the pub served a different breakfast to the one advertised in the room. It was very average - not up to the usual high standard that Premier Inn's normally serve. Also £85 for the room isn't so cheap. A good B&B would be the same price with a cook to order breakfast. Overall I was disappointed with this Premier Inn in comparison to others I have stayed in.

The hotel is great, facilities too, breakfast is worth it, especially for the kids (they eat free), the room we stayed is was far to hot and was uncomfortable for the kids even with the heating turned off, had the window open so then all the street noise was a problem.

Other than that it is a great family hotel and is family biased.

A Premier Inn is just that; particularly old ones like Romford West. They still use physical keys which is a pain when sharing with a colleague. The room was clean and comfortable. The young man at the front desk was very helpful and pleasant.

The restaurant at this property lets it down. The team weren't on the ball, and they only serve breakfast till 9am weekdays which I feel is a bit early. The carvery is decent as well. There is a Sainsburys a 10 minute walk away though if you do need anything.

All Premier Inns are much of a muchness when you stay regularly on business....but I felt I should write a review as the staff were so helpful and friendly!!! Nothing was too much trouble, you just had to ask.
The room was far too warm, but with no air con, a fan was provided, you get get another if you needed extra cooling...and the heatwave is not the hotels fault :)
The food next door in the Moby Dick restaurant was okay, it's a carvery which I usually love, but the gravy was like water, yuk. Again, the staff were friendly enough.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the car park, a bit quieter than the main road rooms
