First stayed at this hotel in 2006 and decided to revisit for 2 nights with my partner as we were attending a local function, and I have to say I was extremely impressed with the standards throughout the whole hotel. We arrived in the early evening and our check in was very smooth and effortless, the room we were allocated was very nice, great bed, good shower and a few extra room " touches" that we have paid more for in the past. We went down to The Hub bar and restaurant and although it was extremely busy due to a function, service for both food and drinks was fast and efficient. We enjoyed a restful nights sleep with no external or ambient noise. On the Saturday we decided to sample the free leisure facilities and again found this to be a very pleasant experience with a jacuzzi and pool available for a very relaxing afternoon.

All in all a very nice experience at what seemed to be an extremely popular and busy hotel judging by the amount of check ins we witnessed. We would definitely use this hotel again in the future.

I would advise all but the natural navigators not to book here unless you have a satnav. This has to be one of the worst signposted medium sized hotels in the country. However, that aside it is one of the nicer holiday inns in the country in many ways. The staff are extraordinarily friendly and helpful, the rooms are cookie cutter Holiday Inn, that is just a cut above basic, but no more, clean, well maintained and functional. The wi fi is good, and the common areas well maintained.
The beds are, as wit many Holiday Inns these days, not terribly large or comfortable. Holiday Inn seem to have taken the decision to cut back significantly on both mattress thickness and quality, so that it feel at times rather as if one is sleeping on a well padded grill or cattle grid. Should the policy go much further one might be advised to take a sleeping mat simply to add a bit of thickness to the arrangement. Its a shame as in many other ways they have done so much good work on staff, cleanliness and the overall quality of the experience. One detects the dark hand of a ban counter somewhere is at work, a bean counter who doesn’t stay at Holiday Inns himself!

Room Tip: ASk for an extra matress

Dear Viscount57
Thank you for taking the time to write your review regarding your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Runcorn.
I am pleased to hear that you found the staff friendliness and helpfulness to be extraordinary and the rooms including the common areas well maintained and clean.
I am sorry to hear that you had difficulties in locating the hotel and that you did not find the bed comfortable. I can confirm that the mattresses that we have are good quality hypnose mattresses and we adhere to a strict mattress turning policy for guest comfort, I can only apologise that this was not the case during your stay.
We appreciate you taking the time to comment as without guest feedback it would be impossible to improve our hotel which is something here at the Holiday Inn Runcorn we are striving to do.
I hope to welcome you back in the near future.
Yours Sincerely

A group of nine of us went for dinner in the Trader's restaurant here last week. It was my cousin's 60th birthday. The wine was flowing, and the food was big! Everything was nice - a few of us had steak, my mum had fish & chips and a couple of people had coronation chicken. Portions were decent sizes, but the prices weren't as cheap as I'd expect from my home town!

The staff were all really friendly and helpful, but the food took quite a long time to arrive.

They did stick a candle on my birthday cousin's cheese board when I asked, and even sang happy birthday. A few of the group were staying for a couple of nights, and said the rooms and facilities were a good standard.

Decent meal in a nice atmosphere.

The hotel is clean and welcoming. Pretty standard for a Holiday Inn, I had steak in the restaurant and it was just lovely, beautifully cooked. Some friends had other things on the menu and felt that their food was a bit lack lustre and tasted processed. So if you are a meat eater the steak is probably the best choice. Breakfast was serve yourself,a good range or food and even had an electric pancake maker in the corner!

The public areas were clean and the drinks not too expensive at the bar, There is a pool table in the corner if you want to entertain yourself, and there are TVs scattered around too

The rooms were comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. Holiday inn is brilliant for giving you a real good range of pillows to suit your needs, so I slept well.

Room Tip: try the electric pancake maker at breakfast
