My wife and I ( 63 and 68 yrs young) had a 17 day stay in May after travelling from Australia. The antiquity ( 800 yrs old ) of Yew Tree Cottage was appealing. Most of all Richard's hospitality was exceptional, and even more so were his breakfasts - fresh produce daily cooked to perfection and enough for 4 people! Our room - The Churchill Room - was large and with comfortable beds and clean sheets, and plenty of storage for our suitcases. We had two bathrooms to chose from. We also had the run of the house for our stay and able to prepare meals in the well equipt kitchen when not eating out.
The location, right on the Village Green was ideal, with 7 pubs and numerous restaurants and coffee shops within 5 mins walk. Loved the General Wolfe on Sunday evening - great people and great band ( Richard plays drums and recites humerous poetry). We can highly recommend this place and hope to stay there again on our next UK visit. Angie and Allan

Room Tip: The Churchill room is the best one of the three rooms offered, though can be noisy at times.

we have used this b and b twice this month, the first as we were in the area late,, the second because we had enjoyed it so much the first time. We were pleasantly suprised by the facilities,, the owner was very friendly and did not mind being woken up gone twelve to be asked for a room for the night,, even giving a lift to the station the following morning! The second time we arrived a bit earlier and were greeted again in a friendly way,, the room was clean and the bed comfortable,, breakfast was lovely and we couldnt manage to eat it all,, ten out of ten,,,,, and we will defo be back,, thank u Richard

We were booked in to stay as we were attending a wedding on Saturday, but unfortunately had to cancel on Friday due to illness. Richard was lovely on the phone and understood completely, even wishing me a speedy recovery. We will definitely consider booking again if we go that way in the future.

Westerham is a delightful old village with some interesting shops and delightful pubs with excellent ale and some live music to while away an evening. Try the General Wolf on a Sunday evening!

One shortcoming of the village however, has been a lack of affordable accommodation. Not any more!

I was lucky enough to discover the charms of Yew Tree Cottage for a Sunday night stay.

On the up side - the owner, a character to be sure - the charming old cottage - crisp clean white bedding on very comfortable beds - The Breakfast!!!

On the slightly not-so-upside - The Cottage has only fairly recently opened as a B&B and has a lttle work in progress, not that this caused any inconvenience and didn't seem to have deterred the other guests who were returning customers. Always a god sign.

I look forward to staying again!

Myself and a work collegue recently spent a night at Yew Tree Cottage after a mix up (our fault) meant we where booked in at the nearby Kings Arms for the wrong night
We where redirected and booked in by the receptionist of the Kings Arms, who indicated to Yew Tree that we would arrive around 10pm
We actually arrived at 8.30, preferring to drop our bags and get changed before heading back to the Kings for dinner (which unfortunately was rather forgettable, with poor service).
Richard the owner of Yew Tree was most apologetic that our rooms where not ready. Really not a problem as 20 minutes ago he didnt even know we where coming and hadn't been expecting any guests at all!!

Yew Tree Cottage is relatively new as a B&B, Richard having only bought and converted it earlier in the year. While its clear there is still some work to be finished (as there would be in a building of this age, that had been unused for some time) he has already created a very nice property that shows great potential for a comfortable and friendly bed and breakfast
The bed was very comfortable and I had a great nights sleep and the breakfast I was presented with the next morning was fantastic, its not often a breakfast defeats me, and I'm unable to finish it all off but his one unfortunately did, and the toast and tea kept being offered!
In summary, a nice cozy old property, comfortable beds, great food and a very warm and friendly welcome, all at a reasonable price
The rooms are not ensuite but there was two large bathrooms just across the corridor, and this was not a problem in such a small B&B (only 3 rooms I thinK)
I suspect I wouldnt have got better had the Kings Arms had rooms available
Good luck for the future Richard, You have made an impressive start

Well, not bad for a first review. I am very pleased that you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again soon. As you say, work continues and there is still a bit to do. However, the aim is still to be comfortable without being 'fluffy or chintzy'. I should say that the one consistent complaint is that the breakfasts are too big- I can live with that.
