This is an impressive hotel which in all respects lives up to favourable first impressions. The accommodation, the food and the helpful and friendly staff all helped to make my 8 day stay delightful. Set in impressive grounds with a quietly confident opulence it is hard to believe that you are paying little more than you have to part with at a purple-themed chain which had been my abode on previous visits to Woking. Thoroughly recommended.

Lovely hotel, great grounds, excellent service (especially recertion and bar). Stayed as a gamesmakers reunion weekend and the venue was perfect. No compaints with the room and bathroom which were both of a good size (in the courtyard).

My sister in law arranged her wedding at this venue.
We arrived to stay the night before the event with her ,with specific requirements for her to have a quiet room away from all the wedding party that was going on that evening. This had all been agreed by the hotel.
On arrival the room previously agreed had been given to other guests with her new room being noisy in the main building.
The duty manager (manager for food & beverages) was rude, disinterested, arrogant & unhelpful leaving my sister in law very distressed in tears. Eventually a receptionist was able to provide some help.
My wife & my room was directly over the party disco & we had not been warned this would be in anyway noisy.
I accept this is an old building but with loud speakers mounted at ceiling level below, the actual disco was considerably quieter than our room which felt like it was part of the loudspeaker cabinet.
The room itself was an excellent size with beautiful views but rather ruined by the food waste under the beds discovered while finding out why the bedside light flickered on & off - electrical connections held together with insulating tape! The bathroom was in serious need of renovation.
Having survived night 1 the actual wedding went smoothly but again the same manager was trying to force my sister in law in to doing things she didn't want to.
The reception food was nice but again having a toast-master unable to speak English clearly just added to the frustrations.
I have no idea what my sister in law and her now husband spent on this event but you can assume a lot.
The venue has excellent potential and many of the staff were delightful and helpful, but the whole experience was ruined by the attitude and consistent behaviour of one senior manager along with a basic disregard for standards of safety & cleanliness apparent in our room.
So little could make this venue excellent but I would caution anyone about considering it for the sort of function I was guest to.

Another Devere Special Offer of Sunday DB&B @£69 for the two of us, which we feel that was well worth it. Ok decor is becoming tired in places, but overall the room was good, the bed big and comfortable and our bathroom spacious. At check-in we were greeted by a friendly receptionist, the gardens were pretty so we got a drink and sat outside in the sunshine. The evening meal was cooked & presented well - we may have liked more choice, but it was a Sunday evening and everything we ordered tasted good. Breakfast was very good (although no smoothies as promised!) - plenty for you to fill up on. There is plenty of free tea & coffee from the vending machine, along with biscuits, which is a lovely bonus. When we checked out we had one negative comment to make and that was 'on the bathroom floor we found a few long black hairs' (deffo not one of us!!). The receptionist was very apologetic and immediately offered us a refund on two drinks we purchased at the bar, and to be honest we didn't expect that and so it makes us more than happy to recommend Devere hotels to others. The hotels may not be 5 star accommodation, but the staff make the visit all the more pleasant :-). Location for us very good as we were visiting RHS Wisley next day, which was 15mins drive away.

Reading the other reviews it seems Gorse Hill clearly is not for everyone but we like the hotel and definitely would go back if we needed to stay somewhere in the area.

Our second visit was over May bank holiday weekend. This visit we were given a room at the Lodge near to the entrance of the hotel. The walk down to the bar/ restaurant was no problem and the quaintness of the lodge room really appealled to us.

We had a large double room, plenty of space around the bed, lovely bay window overlooking the grounds, bathroom was a little "cosy" but perfectly adequate for our needs. The bed was really comfortable and we had a great night sleep (as we did the first visit).

Breakfast was hot / cold buffet with a good selection of English breakfast items plus yoghurts, fruit etc.

Staff at check in and departure were friendly and helpful. Tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities in the hotel was also a "plus".

Room Tip: Lodge room if you like something a little different
