Staying in the campsite next to the restaurant and it being too windy to cook, I decided to eat in here a couple of times and I wasn't disappointed.
The steaks were cooked to my liking and weren't too chewy unlike some places.
Chef was happy to make certain adjustments to my food, such as not putting parsley into the scrummy mashed potato.

Would be nice if there was some egg-free bread though, so I could've sampled the soup :)

The new owner was an amiable chap, always said good morning or evening, depending on the time of the day and have a little chat if he wasn't too busy, the waitresses always had smiles too.

Great music in the background, a mixture of 70s to 90s music, with no sign of the Rap music mentioned elsewhere.

Will definitely return :)

Where do I start! We visited on the Mon..and again on the Wed...and AGAIN on the Friday! Staying at Balure House on Kintyre meant we could hop on the ferry easily (£4.80 return).
The food at The Boathouse was superbly prepared and presented with wonderfully fresh, local ingredients. The chef is really friendly and happy to chat. The setting right by the beach is amazing. Highly recommend the seabass, Gigha Halibut & lemon sole but all good. Asparagus Soup was delicious too! Phyl runs a brilliant team who are always busy but smiley. We will return!

When visiting Gigha for the day with my family we wanted to eat close to the ferry port so the location was convenient. I was amazed at how the Boathouse had transformed since I last visited. The food was high quality, mostly freshly prepared with fresh fish. The menu appeared to cater for all dietary needs and the service was prompt. The Boathouse was so busy the staff had to count the number of cars in the distance coming off the ferry. Seems to be highly used by visitors to the island.

Food reasonably good but expensive. £8.00 for a chessboard - nicely presented but it would have been nice to have fresh fruit with it (not a mouldy apple and grapes past their best). If the portly gent is the proprietor, he really needs to lose his attitude.

Was going to have a light lunch here but the superb choice made for a bigger meal! The waiter was a delight and very helpful, especially coping with one of us with a dairy intolerance - no trouble at all, and even asked the chef to put together a non-dairy dessert for him. The Boathouse is in a beautiful setting, marred slightly by the numbers of touring tents when we visited (I'm sure the campers wouldn't agree, must be a wonderful place to camp!). Well done for so wonderfully taking on this gem of a restaurant, wishing you much success!
