“Nice Stay and Unique Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2013

It's definitely one of the more interesting hostels I've stayed at. The downstairs has a dorm style room, which is basically the same as what you would get in a hospital, a bed with sheets that you can pull around you. I had a small single at the top of the stairs, which was quiet and away from people except for when they would walk down said stairs of course. The rest of the upper part are all private rooms and don't look as much like a hospital. There is a lounge area with a large table, a tv with a dvd/vhs player (no cable). But there are a ton of VHS tapes for you to enjoy. Yes VHS! Also, please be kind and rewind!

The kitchen upstairs is smaller, but has the typical layout. There are two bathrooms also on the upper part and I believe one downstairs. They have showers, although only one of the ones upstairs works fully. It's a really peaceful place, but I'm sure it gets busier as the season begins.

The Norris Point Hostel is one of the cleanest I've ever been staying in. Clean in a nice way, not like in 'antiseptic' :). Bob, the hostelmanager went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable: Helped with information and advice, put us in adjoining single rooms so we had not to stay too far away from each other - being the only 2 guests in the building during our first night. Which was really apreciated because the managers themselves are not living in the hostel, which by the way is a largish rambling building, a former hospital. Not to forget that he brought us homemade Moose sausages so we might get an impression of Newfoundland specialities. And I had a real cosy room with a view of village, forest and water - for a very decent price. Highly recommendable!

I really enjoyed my stay at Bonne Bay hostel. The facilities included a good kitchen for preparing meals and a comfortable common room in which to relax after a day's activities at Gross Morne National Park. The hostel is across the street from a well stocked convenience store and close to the starting point for hikes around Norris Point. The locals were very friendly but at the top of the list is the hostel manager Bob, who gave us a warm welcome and brought us moose sausages to have for lunch! Best wishes to Bob and everyone at Bonne Bay hostel and thanks again for a lovely stay.

I stayed here with 3 friends on my first trip to Newfoundland. It was also a first night in Newfoundland, and because of this stay, we experience Newfoundland hospitality from our very arrival to the rock! When we called ahead of time to ask about the hostel we were told that the hostel was closed, but the man offered to open it up for us having known we were coming. The hostel being in an old hospital is very unique. They have converted the building to quite a community centre including a library, a physiotherapy office, and multiple organizations' offices. When the man let us in he gave us a thorough tour of the centre, showing us old equipment from the hospital such as the old x-ray machine. They are working on creating a museum in the centre as well. The hostel was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed. I hope to return to Gros Morne National Park one day and there is my definite choice of lodging!

Room Tip: The dorm room is like an old ER room with individual beds surrounded by curtains. Upstairs they have...

We stayed here in August 2011. We were a group of 3 girls traveling across Newfoundland and were given our own ward room. The beds and bedside tables are original from the old hospital, and we loved that we had our own curtains for privacy. It was clear they tried to keep the hospital feel. The only downside we found was lack of security. We wished we could have had a lock on our door as we were a group of girls but instead had the old swing doors where anyone could just walk in. We ended up making our own "security system" using empty beer cans lined up in front of the doors. Also, there were no curtains in our bathroom so at night we went to the washroom with the lights off so others, who were outside, couldn't see us!
Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a ward room if traveling with others
