“Lovely Stay in a Historic Home”
Reviewed 22 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The house is located about 8 km from the bridge to get on the island. You'll pass by a few restaurants and churches as you make your way through farmlands to the house, a historic landmark. The two-storey house has a living room, kitchen, dining room, sun room, a full bath, as well as back and front porches on the first floor. The second floor are the three bedrooms and a bathroom with a tub (no shower). More work to update/renovate the house has been done on the first floor than the second. While I like the sound of a rickety floor as people walk around, the musty smell of old wood/house does need some getting used to. Like a lot of older properties, the staircase isn't brought up to code. I'd be careful if you have small children as the spacing of railings is quite large.

In the kitchen, you'll also find basic supplies, like pots and pans, plates and cups. Do bring your own spices, coffee supplies, etc, if you intend to cook. Bring your own bathroom supplies as well. There is a washing machines and dryer in the first floor bathroom, but again, bring your own detergent.

The island itself is very peaceful. As a runner, it was difficult to run on the main road on the tight shoulder as cars and trucks flew by in 80 km/h. After the second day, I was able to find some wide farm road and running alongside the fields was a lot better. The owner has also provided a list of restaurants which she frequents. We didn't have time to try them all but we did go to Auberge La Goeliche on our last night. Food was good; the view was even better!

Overall, we had a lovely stay. Thank you!

Liked best: The house was charming and spacious.
Liked least: Lack of some supplies, like detergent and shampoo. But this is trivial - I just wasn't prepared.

“An historic gem on our favorite island escape”
Reviewed 16 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We have been coming to Isle d'Orleans for many years now, but this is the first time we have rented a house and it could not have been a better experience. The home is a true ancestral property full of charm, history, and vintage appeal. We were here with another couple and 9 year old twins and everyone loved this house as there was more than enough space for all and even room to escape if we wanted. The back porch overlooking the river and mountains had stunning views both day and night. It Was the perfect place to relax after our trips to the city, which is only 20-25 minutes away. The huge family kitchen was a great place to gather for evening meals. The bathrooms were spacious. The bedrooms were all very large and comfortable. The house is decorated with wonderful touches of antique and vintage furniture and is immaculate in every aspect, which is surprising for a house built in 1830; well loved and cared for. The property is a wonderful place to explore right down to the river and waterfalls. We look forward to returning again to this beautiful home.
