we stayed here in march this year, the hotel is very clean and well maintained and all the staff work very hard to maintain this standard. all the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. would recommend doing the day trip to the crocodile park and speed boating they also take you to a local town to look around and do some shopping plus the meal that is included is excellent. they tell you it is a lobster lunch but it comprises of about 9 dishes. see Yanni to book this, he also took us to his own house. will definitely go back.....

We stayed there May 16-24 . Ocean view room upgrade is a must . What a view! Even 5 stars hotels don't come even close . Our room was on the 3rd floor , spacious and always clean . Generally hotel might need some Reno here and there , but again it's very clean. Food is great. Honestly. We went to the Melia , the next door hotel. 5 stars . To have a lunch with our friends who stayed there. I gotta admit- Sol had better food. And again. Service is amazing. Special thanks to the Manager. He helped us a lot with great smile and I felt his passion about making every guest happy and special

we arrived on 7th may 2014, to be honest I was disappointed the lobby was a bit dark and dank and it seemed very untidy, had a welcome drink and check in was simple, had a few beers before going to the room, when we arrived at out room which was room 1304 there was a very strong smell of paint, but the room was clean and well equipped. we got changed and went down for dinner, this was the next disappointment, the food looked terrible, and the staff seemed to be rushed off there feet. we found something to eat and enjoyed what little we had. By this time we were talking about moving hotels, we went to he bar which was a mess to say the least, we asked for a drink and was served in a plastic cup which was a bit poor for a 4* hotel.
The next morning we got up and decided to stay and make the most of it . breakfast was much better there was a lot of choice and the staff were more relaxed , meal times through out the 2 weeks were a little hit and miss, we found it better if you got in to the restaurant as it opened .
The Hotel is 17 years old and is in need off up dating. we found sun beds easy to get and enjoyed the rest of the holiday. There are a couple of things you should know, there is a lack of hand washing soap in the toilets and on many occasions no loo roll, so I would say take a hand sanitizer with you and have a few tissues at hand,
The entertainment could be better, the animation team are very lazy and a little ignorant in the 2 weeks we stayed there not one member spoke to us, we also had a few days rain so sat in the lobby with other guest and the only entertainment was a game of darts , this was a time when tgey should of pulled out all the stops to stop the guests getting board.
The beach was lovely but again could be made even better with a few more sun shades and a few hours cleaning up by the gardeners. There was some sun shades but they need repairing. The sea was lovely and clear and very warm. Be warned one lady was stung by a jellyfish.
We booked a day trip which we both enjoyed and saw some beautiful sites and we even got to hold a crocodile. The tour guide was full of very interesting facts and very informative, we were also with a lovely crowd of people who helped make our day.
The staff at the Sol made our holiday, as we got to know them we really did start to enjoy our time there. They are happy and very helpful, nothing is to much trouble for them. From the Gardeners to the managers so thank you all.
We thought there were 3 other restaurants but was told at the welcome meeting that one was open. We did book and had a lovely meal , there were tables empty on all our visits, there is seating for 30 people but we only ever counted between 8 to 10 eating. This is a bit poor as many guest were unable to book. We did have lobster on one visit which was very good, but you do have to pay extra for it but it was worth it, meals also very in there to the last visit we were unable to eat the meal as it was so poor.
We also had a very bad tummy upset while there, it lasted about 3 days, very bad tummy cramps . You should also take plenty of mosquito repellent as there are rife and they don't sell it there.
We did take a travel kettle and 2 in 1 coffee sachets which came in handy as there is no kettle in the room.
Over all our holiday was a good one, I think with a bit of TLC the Sol could be a great hotel, the staff do there best to make you feel comfortable, My biggest worry was lack of hand washing soap and toilet roll, also this is the only hotel I have stayed in for a good many years where you are not required to use hand sanitizer when you enter the food hall, we did witness many people walking out of the loos with out washing there hands, even when there was soap available .
We have stayed in better hotels which are on the same rating as the sol 4* but paid more for them. So for the money we paid I suppose I shouldn't complain .

Came back from Cuba 3 days ago, spent there 4 days with my boyfriend. It was our first vacation experience and it was great! Although the weather wasn't extremely hot and sunny and sometimes it was raining we had fun. Got really nice tan, had amazing experience when snorkeling and fed very cute animals like beavers.
The hotel is very good, the staff is friendly and helpful. We got our room cleaned every day and a bottle of water provided every day as well.
To say about food the variety wasn't very big, but shrimp, mussels and all kinds of fish were very very good. From fruit good were only bananas.
There are few bars in the hotel and everywhere the cocktails and service are on high level. Sometimes when we didn't know what we wanted we just asked the barman something nice and tasty and he did it.
Would highly recommend this resort and hotel if you want to relax, have fun and think about nothing.

Room Tip: We had a room with ocean view. It's a little bit more expensive but it's worth it.

1st time at Sol Cayo Coco, loved every minute of our holiday. The staff are the best I have come across. From the Hotel Manager Luis through to the cleaners. Would like to give a few members of staff a mention as these made our holiday. Duanne the cocktail bar man, Aisel, Roly, Yulka, Blanca, Luis A & Amilio the bar & restaurant. The entertainers were great especially the Biiiiinnnnngoooo man. Can't wait to go back.

Stayed here for two weeks at the beginning of May and just re-read some of the reviews and I couldn't honestly say nothing. Despite what you read below may I just say before hand that we had a wonderful time and met some lovely people.

We were two couples who had adjoining rooms with a sea view, the rooms are basic but clean.
Our patio doors didn't lock nor did our friends next door, this was not a problem as we were on the second floor but could be if you get a room on the ground floor( our rooms were 2423 & 2424).
If you like a hard mattress this is the place for you (I had a bad back for a week).
There's a safe in all the rooms but you have to pay for them.
The rooms have a fridge but you have to pay for them to be stocked with soft drinks etc.

By the side of the pool there is a poolside bar serving soft drinks and alcohol served in small plastic cups, I wish we had taken our own cooler cups as a lot of the Canadians did. The bar area also has a snack counter serving burgers and pizzas.
There are shaded areas around the pools but there could be more as you had to be up quite early to get one. In particular there is one raised area with 8 sun beds on it, if you use this be careful as some of the boards are rotten and there are some nails sticking out.

The dining area is quite busy at night and the staff struggle at times to clear the tables and re-set them. Had to shake my head when noticing that some of the table tops had been nailed yes nailed to the legs!
The food is basic and at times you could be struggling for something to eat as what you get on day 1 will be the same on your last day, if you have fussy kids it may be a problem but you won't starve.
I must say the dining staff were excellent and always had a smile on their faces.

The beach is lovely and there are plenty of beds( the guys on the beach will expect a 1pesos tip after they sort your sun beds for you)
There is an even better beach to your left which is used by the locals at the weekend from Moron, the sea is much calmer there, this can be accessed via a bridge over a stream.
The Hotel has a small bar serving soft drinks near the bridge.

Entertainment is on every night. To be honest it is not of the greatest standard but they do try to be enthusiastic as it all seemed to be in-house apart from the fashion show.

The trips offered by Thomas Cook are very expensive and not worth the money. Some of the guests went on the Havana trip and were bitterly disappointed in the accommodation and standard of food provided and complained to the Rep and and we're going to make an official complaint when there got home. If you get the chance there is a guy who comes around the pool area called Roberto, go on one of his trips, he's half the price and well worth it( he also does the trip to Havana and the people we spoke to who went with him had a great time).

Take all your own medication i.e. Pain killers, Imodium, antiseptic cream and especially anti histamine because you will get bitten by the Mosquitos, I did and had a bad reaction and came out of the hotel doctors £100 lighter(a little tip from my doctor back home who said take an anti histamine every day whilst out there, it will take up to a week for the swelling to go down so unless your really concerned just carry on taking the tablets to stop you from itching).

This hotel is no way 4 star, it's an old hotel which badly needs a major refurbishment and personally I would say it was more likely a lower end 3 star

Did it spoil our holiday? - No
Why? - Because we'd done our research and knew what to expect unlike some guests.

I hope I haven't put you off from going to the Sol as I'm sure you will have a great holiday as we did but pre-warned is pre-prepared.

Ps. Take plenty of sweets for your kids as we didn't see any to buy.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for taking part of your time sharing, on the Trip Advisor, your opinions about your stay at Sol Cayo Coco.

We regret we did not fulfill your expectations, we sincerely apologize for this.

All your remarks are appreciated by us, they will be thoroughly analyzed, because they help us to improve our daily work with the actions we take to solve the difficulties and avoid similar remarks.
No complaints about the mattresses and many people prefer hard, I think it's a question of habit.
The safe is not included in either the minibar that is clearly described in the brochure of the Hotel.
And in the pool we serve drinks in plastic cups for a matter of safety and hygiene.

We kindly ask you to give us another opportunity so you can forget this bad experience.

Truly yours,
Luis.
