This was our second visit and we were not disappointed - once again the staff were so welcoming and it was lovely to be remembered by Yanesi, Alex, Pepe & Mavi on the entertainment team & welcomed so warmly by Angel who was on work experience - also Hector in the restaurant remembered us and we were well looked after by him and also by Claudia, Maryann & Joel - down at the beach bar Amilkar welcomed us back and Joseph was lovely too! The fresh red snapper & salmon was amazing. We genuinely cannot wait to visit again - the only issue we had is that not many guests used the Music Bar and so the DJ was not really into it for just a couple of people!! All the same the holiday was fab!! Thank you xx

This was our first trip in 17 years to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We had a blast!! Great resort, food, entertainment and the staff were amazing. We fell in love with Cuba, especially with the beautiful beaches and the friendly people. We are definitely coming back and would highly recommend the Melia Cayo Coco to all our friends and family. Thank you for making our stay amazing!

We had a lovely holiday at this hotel in the first two weeks of the British school holidays (along with many other teaching staff no doubt!). The first thing to say is that it's a long time since we flew with Thomas Cook and I hope it's a long time before we fly with them again. Maybe we're spoilt - we normally try to fly with Virgin or one of the other big carriers - but I see no excuse for not offering at least free water on a long haul flight. To charge for the most basic of human needs on an 8+ hour flight is little short of outrageous and added to the lack of leg room it made for an uncomfortable flight both ways.

So having got the whinge out of the way, the holiday itself. Firstly, the rep, Jorge; undoubtedly the best and most efficient holiday rep we have ever encountered in all our years of travelling. He is politeness and efficiency personified and is a credit not only to Thomas Cook but to Cuba itself. We had a little problem with noise from our neighbours (more of a misunderstanding really I think) but as soon as I mentioned it to Jorge he was straight on the phone to hotel management. They, in their turn, were also ultra efficient and spoke to the people (Russians) immediately and fed back to us as soon as they had done so and we had no further problems, and this was after they had offered to move us, a kind offer which we declined as we were perfectly happy with our allotted room. I'm sure some people would have pestered for an upgrade into one of the lagoon rooms but why bother if you're happy where you are? Jorge is also on hand at the airport to safely see everyone homebound, so another plus point for him.

So the hotel management: as I've said ultra efficient, polite and effective. I overheard one or two people complaining about something and getting quite hot under the collar but please, don't just moan about it if you have a problem - go and speak to the front desk staff: you will find them only too willing to help! And this attitude sums up the rest of the Melia staff - always ready and willing to help and make your stay as comfortable as possible. This extends to garden staff as well so please folks, don't forget them when you have goodies to hand out as they do tend to be overlooked.

Bar staff and waiting staff are all brilliant and friendly, although I have to say we were none too impressed with the service we received in the Cuban a la carte restaurant for our 9.00pm slot on the first Monday of our stay, to the extent that we walked out after our main course and went back to the main buffet restaurant for our pudding. And that restaurant (the main buffet) was always well stocked with a good variety of food and good service. Both the Italian and International restaurants were good and offered very pleasant dining experiences. The evening entertainment was usually pretty good and the highlight for me was definitely the jazz band (The Family) who are all incredible musicians and the hotel is very fortunate to be able to offer such high calibre talent as these guys. Ant not to forget the resident pianist who plays most evenings in the lobby bar between 7.00 and 8.00pm who is also quite talented provides a very pleasant backdrop to the start of the evening.

The pool is good and so is the beach but, as always, there are those (and from what I could see they were mostly, unfortunately, Brits, much to my shame) who had to have their own special place every day and so had to place their towels on the sunbeds early morning. The hotel does have signs up forbidding this practice but they are ignored and unfortunately staff do nothing to enforce it; I really wish they would as it needs to be stopped. One couple in particular (and these were Canadians - one young and one not so!) used to reserve prime seats around the pool and then do the same on the beach ensuring that at least two sunbeds were never being used at all. The sheer selfishness of some people never ceases to amaze me. Overall the standard of behaviour of guests was good although there were one or two who left a little to be desired and who, quite frankly, would be more suited to a week in Benidorm or Blackpool. I am not a snob but I do expect people to behave properly when on holiday; if you want to drink yourself into an early grave that's fine by me as long as you do so quietly; I'm afraid lining up drinks poolside (Brits) is vulgar to say the least! And I'm sorry but I don't think vests are suitable evening attire on men; I certainly do not want to be seeing men's underarm hair while eating my dinner and I'm sure most other people do not either! These uncouth pigs should stay at home at the troughs they are used to.

All in all though, a very happy and good holiday. Would I go back? Probably not as there are still too many other places to see, but I would definitely recommend it to others, and I certainly wish we were back there now, especially given the current state of British summer weather!

As ever I will be happy to answer any queried anyone may have.

wow, our first try at an all-inclusive and we picked the best. thru westjet vacations.
don't miss the arrival day features tour, the staff will explain all the amenities, features and mealtimes. we took one of the deluxe cabins on stilts out on the lagoon- watched fish swimming under the balcony.
bring an insulated jumbo mug for your beach drinks-double up and enjoy some sunny sit-down time. early morning beach walkers get the best shells.
if everybody meanders off the beach around noon its because there is a seafood BBQ happening at the beach lounge-pick your fish and watch it grill.
have a massage!
activities staff will drag you to dance or archery-go for it- you're on vacation!
see you at the billiard hut for beers!.
we will go again!

Room Tip: lagoon suites on stilts! the farthest end of the quay in the last cabin was private for 'sunning...

What an amazing place, the Melia Cayo Coco is 5* and more, it's made this way due to the fantastic staff, Arley in the lounge bar, Ailym in the restaurant for breakfast and lunch and Lizandra as the entertainment staff, they went above and beyond, I can't thank you enough for making our holiday so special. The rooms, the restaurants, the bar, the cocktails and beach - super! One consideration - don't close the beach bar at 4:50pm - maybe 6/7pm, just a suggestion! Still an amazing place! My sister and I will be returning next year - highly recommended hotel and resort!
