This was our first trip to Culebra & we loved it, the beaches are beautiful & we saw lots of turtles while snorkeling. Our room at Casa Resaca was spacious with a tile floor & lots of windows. Cliff & Maureen were a pleasure to talk with and provided coffee every morning. They also loaned us beach chairs & a small cooler for the week. The common area was very welcoming with a shared kitchen & fridge. Just an FYI - there were a lot of ants in our room and kitchen, our shower was a bit tricky to regulate the hot water, and the roosters that run wild are loud and seem to crow all night. You must rent a car to get to the beaches - this location is not walking distance to anything.

This was our first trip to Casa Resaca in Culebra. From the time we arrived from the airport, Cliff and Maureen welcomed us as if we had known each other for years. Their hospitality is something I certainly did not expect, even though I read many positive reviews before going. They are just amazing people!

Our room was big, sparkling clean, and a great place to relax at the end of the day in Culebra. The bed is comfortable, and there are useful amenities at the property. The outdoor shower was handy after a day at the beach. The beach chairs were perfect for a day at one of Culebra's amazing beaches. They just had lots of little things to make the stay thoroughly enjoyable.

Cliff and Maureen were also great at giving recommendations. They recommended the best beach for snorkeling, the best beaches for other activities, places to eat, things to do, and everything in between. Their knowledge of Culebra was invaluable, and it made the trip even more enjoyable.

Thank you Cliff and Maureen. We will be back.

This was our second trip to Casa Resaca. Culebra is a special place and Resaca adds to the charm. Big spotless rooms, great beds and a wonderful shower. What more could you ask for? Cliff and Maureen the two most welcoming and knowledgeable hosts on the island.

For a very relaxing vacation baby-moon we wound up choosing Culebra for three nights. It's a great, new, two story guest house with a comfortable bed. The two best things about Resaca are the hosts and it's central location to everything. Culebra is small and inhabited by chickens and bugs. No matter where you go you can't escape them. But Resaca has nice windows, doors, and screens to keep the bugs at bay and the noise to a minimum. You need an understanding of Culebra to appreciate how great this place is. Thank you Cliff and Maureen.

Room Tip: The two rooms upstairs are more private. Nice size, nice layout, nice bathroom.

We enjoyed our recent 3-day stay very much. Please be sure to note that Casa Resaca is only open during the winter months. It is extremely popular, so be sure to plan far in advance. Part of the allure is no doubt the welcoming and helpful host and hostess, Cliff and Maureen. We particularly liked the location, as it was a bit quieter neighborhood than many of the places closer into Dewey. I agree with other posters in that a car or golf cart is a must.

One of the things we most enjoyed were the common spaces where guests gathered to enjoy morning coffee and cook breakfast. We really liked that Cliff is an early-bird so coffee was ready when we were! The kitchen is well equipped so just about any kind of meal can be made. There is also a gas grill available. We bought groceries for breakfast and lunches upon arrival, but also had one evening to eat in with all of our restaurant leftovers. Beach chairs, coolers, frozen gel packs, water toys, etc. were all available for use. We also enjoyed birding in the lush surroundings while just sitting in the lanai with our binoculars and a cold drink! Cliff generously loaned us a laptop so we could see the Culebra on-line bird guide.

For the price, we thought that Casa Resaca was an exceptional value. That said, we cannot give exceptional marks for the Casita. Please don't get me wrong - we enjoyed our visit very much, however given the choice I would probably try one of the different rooms. There is a wiring problem in that one cannot run the air conditioner and take a shower at the same time. Even though Cliff warned us, I foolishly made this mistake and wound up covered in soap trying to find my way out of a pitch black bathroom! It actually was kind of funny, but not at the time. I didn't make that mistake again! We did run the air-conditioner at night mostly as it was just more comfortable and quiet when the neighboring chickens started to party early in the morning!

We did like that the Casita was very private as compared to the other downstairs room, but it also seemed to be quite the "ant magnet." We constantly had dead ants in various locations around the room. Cliff removed the night light which helped a little bit, but there was still an inordinate amount of ants. On the other hand, I'm glad that strong consideration is used before using poisons, but even for long-time outdoor tent campers it was still a bit much. Of course we know from living in Florida that occasionally there's just an "ant invasion" that is temporary in nature! Next time, I'll just bring ant traps! And what is "paradise" without a few bugs?

Thank you so much to these very interesting and well traveled guests for taking the time to write a review for Casa Resaca.
And, for also pointing out that we are only open seasonally Jan.-April(4 months). This is clearly posted on our website, but often goes unnoticed, as we do receive room requests year round. I apologize for this confusion.
Although ants have never been a presence in any room, there was an odd collection around an electrical outlet during this guests stay. ( We agree and stand by not spraying chemicals in this fragile & beautifully unique area of culebra).
And, as mysteriously as the ants appeared, they disappeared within a few days. Just normal life in the tropics ! Cheers !

Summary
A clean, spacious, family-run B&B tucked away in a corner of Culebra.

The Good
- Large, clean rooms with king bed (two twins put together), sitting area, shelving, hangers
- Friendly, knowledgeable owners
- Beach amenities: chairs, towels, snorkel gear

The Bad
- Tight parking
- Sometimes tricky shower with hot/cold water
- “Beach” towels were brand new, but a bit small and thin

Review
Casa Resaca is a comfortable little family-run B&B situated about 5 minutes from the airport and just ten minutes from Dewey. Owners Cliff and Maureen have lived in and around Culebra and Puerto Rico for over twenty-five years and are a wonderful source of knowledge about the island (and many if not most of the bar and restaurant owners on Culebra seem to know them). Their little dog Chica is a great mascot for the place.

Our room was quite large, with enough room for a king-sized bed (it was two twins together but it worked out well), two end tables, a comfortable easy chair with ottoman, and a large, open-framed shelving unit with plenty of space to hang clothes (and dry damp clothes out – great for post-beach). The bathroom was also large with a beautifully done shower. The only drawback here is that the water is solar-heated and “on demand,” so a hot shower was a bit more challenging to use than a “normal” shower. Air conditioning and a ceiling fan keep the room cool and provide some white noise if needed.

Resaca also provided one of the best little thoughtful amenities we found in the Caribbean: small, soft bath mats on each side of the bed to get the sand off your feet before getting under the sheets.

Two rooms share a small, private porch with seating and there is another public porch with a couch available. Coffee (no food) is served in the morning in yet another screened-in porch area with couches and chairs - this area is somewhat shared with the owners. The attitude is laid-back, and we found sharing the space more of a joy than anything. There is a small dunking pool available for guests to cool off.

The parking is for about two Jeeps and a golf cart, but is tight. The Casa is tucked away in a forested corner of Culebra and not “near” any beaches, but you’re never more than 10-15 minutes drive away from a beach in any case. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: We stayed in the front main guest house room and loved it.

Cliff and Maureen, owners of Casa Resaca, are the perfect hosts. Staying there was like being guests in their home. A comfortable room, great Puerto Rican coffee waiting in the morning, beach chairs and snorkeling equipment at the ready, our hosts encyclopedic knowledge of places to go and things to do on Culebra, all contributed to a perfect place to stay.
