What sold us on this place was that it was located on the beach....the only one on the beach on the entire island. We initially rented an apartment in the front building (no villas at the time). It was very nice, clean and fully equipped. We then moved to a villa the next day and it felt like being in your own little house. The staff was very kind and helpful. The convenience of having the beach so close was very nice and the beach was amazing! Beware of the sand fleas that bite at dusk!

I say almost perfect for the same reason I never give a score of 100 on a student essay; there's always room for improvement. I know, I know. Anyway, if being within crawling distance of the beach--or the hotel depending upon one's orientation--is something to be desired and the location is Culebra Island in Puerto Rico, give Culebra Beach Villas a whirl.

At around 125.00 a night they aren't cheap, but not too pricey either. This is due in part to the rustic nature of the place; it's no 5 star hotel and if that's what you want, keep looking. Still, I thought it was great. The bungalow we rented was clean and comfortable with a porch, sitting/dining area, kitchenette with stove, fridge sink and microwave; the bedroom was spartan and outfitted with a comfy queen sized bed. There was a TV, but I only used it for a night light before bed, so I can't tell you much about available programming. But the beach...

Oh, the beach! Beautiful, deep blues and topaz water and fine whitish sand. My companion called the waters "azurine," but I don't think that's a word. Still, she's crazy about Scrabble, so who knows?

There's a little area about 1000 meters or so (no I didn't measure it) down the beach where you can buy food and drinks if you wish, but I suggest shopping in town and grilling on one of the charcoal grills provided by the nice people at Culebra Beach Villas.

I honestly almost cried tears of joy when we arrived at the villas. I would classify Culebra Beach Villas as luxury camping -- the atmosphere is rustic-chic. Each villa has an expansive porch with hammocks and seating for lounging and a BBQ for cooking. The set-up of our studio was basic: bed, mini-kitchen (with fridge, stove, microwave) and AC. The main perk of this place is the location. You are mere steps away from Flamenco Beach -- home to the most pristine sand that stretches further than the eye can see. If you don't mind being away from Dewey (15 min cab ride, $3 each way) and prefer the simplicity of the sand and the surf -- this is the place for you. Bring a bag full of food from the grocery store in Dewey and a bottle of rum and you're set!
Other random info:
- outdoor shower to wash your feet of après-beach
- free wi-fi near the office
- quiet at night
- within walking distance to the Flamenco Beach food kiosks (#6 has INCREDIBLE garlic shrimp and great breakfast as well!)

Read not so nice experience therefore arrived a little nervous not knowing what to expect however have to say that at least our room 1B (ground level) located in the main 3 story building was amazing! This is a compound that consists of one main 3 story building and various cabins behind. All the rooms belong to different owners, but believe they have one administrator. Our apt consisted of two separated rooms, each with their own private bathroom, and AC, one fully equiped kitchenette, smally dinning area, living room and private balcony with hammock. Everything was clean and disinfected, no bugs at all. The best part: the apt had a breathtaking ocean view; you can enjoy your breakfast while looking at the ocean and beautiful white sand. The staff is magnificent always willing to assist you and the lady that rented our apt, Doña Marta is the best, she is outstanding! Warning; after a beautiful sunset little tiny and annoying mosquitos will come out, therefore use mosquito repellent while at the outdoors. Another advice; since you have a kitchenette, bring your own grocery, you will save $$ in food and taxi. We dined once in Mamacitas and have to say that the food and service was outstanding. If visiting Culebra, Culebra Beach Resort is the place to stay, ask for Doña Marta and request room 1B. It’s the only hotel inside Playa Flamenco, you will not regret it! I highly recommend it and definitively will come back!
