“Truly accommodating”
Reviewed 10 November 2009

We showed up to the Whitcomb Summit nearly 12:30 Halloween night after a 12-hour drive, only to be greeted by Jim the owner and welcomed to the party! Jim catered to our every need--the continental breakfast was sprawling! The rooms are clean and bright, and the morning sunrise and clouds-over-the valley view was spectacular. The cafe/bar area in the office is cozy and always has someone friendly to talk to. Great stay! We'd go back!

This bright, clean lodging and tavern on top of the summit offers spacious, renovated rooms of a 1970's motel that are clean and comfortable. You really are on top of the world as the sun rises above the mountains to the east. The new proprietors, a historically inclined father-daughter team from Attleboro invigorate the place with events like hayrides around the grounds and Hallloween parties in the formerly dull and drafty tavern. Breakfasts by the wood-burning stove are cheery with full wireless access for those checking e-mails or updating their blogs. A full bar is now available. But even more notable to my mind is the first tourist cabin in New England. It was moved from the hairpin turn a few miles down the road and now the ramshackle structure will be preserved as part of the hotel's future. Big plans to install a new swimming pool, cabins and a full-service restaurant are underway. I admire their energy, warmth and service. A must stay!

Whitcomb Summit, as the name suggests sits atop what the Native Americans called 'Spirit Mountain'. The views are amazing, the rooms are beautifully kept and clean and the owner Jim is welcoming, friendly and makes you feel at home.

The people who work him, his daughter and son-in-law and all of the rest of the group are the friendliest group of people we met on our tour of this part of the USA and we would love to return.

Missing you already.

The Whitcomb Summit is a clean, modern, well maintained, well appointed
motel in a magnificent setting: at the top of a mountain on Route 2 in the
Northern Berkshires with 100 mile view of Massachusetts, Vermont and to Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire on a clear day. It is something to wake up to a view of the mountains and valleys below covered with clouds. Owners Ed and Carol are friendly, hard-working and unusual for americans -- sincere, not pathologically superficial. They work
very hard to make your experience enduring and memorable, and put a lot of time and effort into making their motel a place you think about afterwards and want to come back to.

Stayed here a few nights last fall, its definitely one of the best places on the Mohawk Trail. The location/view is awesome, the owners are super nice, the rooms are all redone, and the price is reasonable. Also, they have DirecTV or something like that, and I saw the Red Sox Game 5 comeback here, which was insane. Highly recommended!

I am the president of a 4x4 club (Jeeps, Land Rovers, Toyotas) and we just returned from our annual club outing at the Whitcomb Summit, located in the heart of some of the best of New England four-wheeling. We've stayed at WS for three years now and have always had a great time, but this year was really special as the owner, Carol Drummond, has arranged for her niece, Kim Drummond, to take over the catering operations. Not only does Kim have the communcation skills of a five-diamond hotel concierge (she was a delight in helping us organize the weekend), she cooked up an amazing Mexican feast for us on Saturday night including beef and black bean burritos, home-made salads, delicious spicy corn soup and home-made cilantro salsa verde. What a treat to arrive back to the hotel after a long day on the trail and find our drinks chilled by Kim, home-made chips and salsa on the deck and one of the most beautiful views in New England.

Our rooms were spotlessly clean, including our rustic cabin, in front of which we were even able to have a club campfire!

Thanks again to Carol and Kim for a fantastic weekend!

We stayed here in August last year when we were spending our holiday in the gorgeous Berkshires area (MA). It is located in the hart of the Mohawk trail (touristic trail from east to west), and is surrounded by beautiful nature and hills/mountains. Though high-season, the prices were very low (lower than low-budget hotelchains located much less preferable), though breakfast was not included. Great place when you are traveling by car, which is necesary because the nearest shop and restaurant are at minimum 7 miles away.

The caretakers/owners were very helpful, the motel seemed quite destroyed on the outside (could use a fresh paintjob), but the room itself was clean and well maintained, as was the bathroom.
We really enjoyed our stay there in the middle of nature's splendour (great views and sitting outside the room on the porch eating the food you bought at the supermarket at the start of the Mohawktrail at full moon is unforgetable).

Good place to stay, great value for money.
