“Great weekend stay”
Reviewed 5 July 2014 via mobile

Our recent stay at the Inn on Poplar Hill did not disappoint. First the property is beautiful - lots of land to walk around on and you really could make yourself at home. The owners are very accommodating - especially for dog owners. They recommended great dog-friendly wineries to visit, directed us to great restaurants and helped with any questions we had. Coffee brought to your room in the morning and fresh cookies baked in the evening - what more could you ask for?!?!

I got to attend my friend's small and elegant wedding at this Inn. We all stayed at the inn and the whole wedding and reception was right on the grounds. The food was amazing. The building is old but well taken care of. Each room as it's own theme and bathroom. The owners are really friendly. There is also great wine tasting close by and Montpelier is 5 miles away.

My new husband and I planned a small intimate wedding at the Inn on Poplar Hill. From the time we decided to have it there it was amazing. Marty and Victoria outdid themselves! It was perfect from the start. Victoria did all of the cooking and Marty ensured everything was perfect. If you are planning a wedding this is absolutely the way to go (if you want small and intimate.) Victoria did the entire reception meal and the cake was to die for! We did a strawberry with cream cheese icing and from the decorations to the first bite, I can't even describe how good it was. She also did all of the flowers. I gave very little to go on and I'm so glad that's what I did b/c I couldn't have asked for better decorations and flowers. We did the ceremony outside under the poplar tree and then danced the night away under the stars and lights of the tree. This is a MUST visit B&B, even for just a weekend getaway!

Room Tip: All of the room are unique in their own way, look at the website. For our wedding night we stayed i...

We were looking for a midway point from where our family lives and this was perfect. We had lots of babies/young children and two dogs (there are 2 dog friendly rooms). We hung out on the property all weekend, grilled one dinner there on the deck, hiked the trails, enjoyed the game room with biliiard table and enjoyed the precious time we had together as a family (humans and canines loved it). The breakfast was amazing and Victoria asked everyone about food preferences and in addition to wonderful omelets made plain eggs for our pickier eaters. We are likely to return in the future.

We stayed at the Inn on Poplar Hill for a weekend wedding that took place on the grounds under a beautiful old tree. I loved staying in the Victorian Rose Room — it was very cozy and adorably decorated. The food was amazing, and Victoria was extremely accomodating of my many food allergies. The entire house is wonderful, all the rooms each have their own special charm. My favorite part are the around 2 miles of trails around the property, including a creek and pond and two fire pits that Marty lit for us, and they even provided the makings for s'mores! Marty & Victoria are superb hosts, and have a way of setting such a relaxed and welcome atmosphere. I would highly recommend this b&b for anyone looking for some Virginia charm and hospitality!

We stayed at the Inn on Poplar Hill for a quick anniversary retreat. The drive was just lovely and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. This historic home has all of the comfort and charm you could ask for in a romantic getaway, and Marty & Victoria were the most gracious hosts. The breakfasts were very creative and quite delectable. We were travelling with our 2 dogs and it is not always easy to find lodging that will accept pets. Not the case with the Inn on Poplar Hill. Our guys were welcomed in with lots of scratches behind the ears and a cup full of biscuits. We were also recommended to several local wineries which were also dog-friendly. It was a wonderful visit and one that we hope to repeat very soon.

Although we live close, it was far enough away to call it a great break for the weekend. Marty and Victoria made sure we had everything we needed and even made some recommendations for places to visit. He also called and made a reservation for us at a local restaurant. It was a quaint place for a quick get away at a reasonable price. My wife and I had a GREAT time. Oh, and the "game room" is a must visit!!
