This was a very fascinating place to stop for lunch on the way to DC from North Carolina. I loved the atmosphere and the artifacts. There were wonderful pictures on the walls. It was a large remodeled mill....the service was excellent! Unfortunately the food was mediocre at best...we left without eating much.

Our early dinner was quite good, but what we liked the most was the setting/décor. Formerly a silk factory, the owner(s) retained the industrial look and added all kinds of machinery and implements. The high ceilings of the original mill enhanced the ambience. We opted to eat on the outdoor patio after spending some time indoors looking at the implements and reading the memorabilia on the walls. It was a good decision because we met a local couple and were able to chat to get insiders' insight into the Orange community. The food was consistently good: steak cooked perfectly as ordered (rare), perfectly cooked baked potato, excellent soup du jour, roasted red pepper with gouda, fresh greens, tangy and rich spinach dip. The consistency is why we found it one of the best meals ever! Unlike other reviewers, we rated the service as excellent, attentive and paced appropriately to our needs.

My second dinner in Orange for a 3 night stay was here because they aren't open Mondays. This was an improvement over the first restaurant, but I stuck to steak and potatoes based on some of the reviews here. Started out with a Caesar salad, which was decent but they had no anchovies, so it was either out of a bottle or using Worcestershire sauce. Not bad, though. The ribeye was cooked properly to medium rare with a uniform color throughout the cross-section, leading me to believe they do their steaks sous-vide and sear for more doneness when requested, a good approach. Choice of sides included a baked potato or veggies, not both; I opted for the spud, which had a quite generous portion of butter and sour cream.

Unlike my dinner on Monday, the price of a pitcher of beer was less than it would be ordering the number of pints in the pitcher (~4 1/2 - it was $3.25 for a pint and $10 for a pitcher on the menu). However, when the waitress split the check between the two of us, she had $6 for it on each of them. There seems to be a trend of service issues in prior reviews of this restaurant, which was born out in the wait time between seating ourselves and getting any attention/menus as well as the division problem hinting at questionable motives. If I were running the establishment, I would put more attention in this area; if I eat here again I will look closely at the bill.

We were looking for a restaurant that was average in price and had good atmosphere, and we were pleasantly surprised by our choice! The service was a little slow, but the industrial atmosphere was nice. It was a little difficult to hear conversation due to the room being completely open but we made due. Food was delicious! The crab dip, steaks, and drinks were just perfect! Price was what we expected, we had already looked at their menu online before going so we knew what to expect. We definitely will be back when visiting Gordonsville, VA

Not much else to speak of. The fish was over-cooked. The service was slow and unprepared for "people coming in at the same time" or, as we call it, "dinner time".
