We stopped here for dinner while waiting for the ferry back to the mainland. Lured in by a sign at the front advertising lasagne, chips and salad for $16, when we tried to order it we were told it was no longer on the menu. We settled instead on a chicken parmigiana and a wild mushroom risotto at $22 each. We placed our order and waited... and waited... and waited... 45 mins later, the food finally arrived leaving us little time to scoff it down before having to catch the ferry. The first thing that caught our eye was the moat of yellow oil surrounding the risotto. It was, literally, swimming in oil. The second noticeable thing was the bland taste. Yes, there was the odd mushroom in the risotto but it was mostly just a bland oily pile of
rice. The chicken parmigiana was not much better... although it was a good size it tasted as though some tinned tomatoes had been tipped over it with no attempt at real flavour. We were utterly disgusted by the food and the relatively premium prices being charged for it.
While the view was lovely looking over the ocean, we would strongly recommend choosing any other place to eat rather than the Penneshaw Hotel. We left with lighter wallets and a heavy, nauseous feeling in our stomachs.
