Description: Glass walls at the front of the outdoor area and large windows opening to the sea air capture the light and view for all diners in all weather with new modern alfresco furniture. The Penneshaw Hotel – also known as the “Penny”- has both inside and alfresco dining areas giving the hotel a relaxed casual feel. However, there's nothing casual about the excellent presentation and consistency of the food. With a superb wine list, some of the best pub food SA has to offer and competitive function options the Penny is a perfect crowd pleaser.

We stopped here for dinner while waiting for the ferry back to the mainland. Lured in by a sign at the front advertising lasagne, chips and salad for $16, when we tried to order it we were told it was no longer on the menu. We settled instead on a chicken parmigiana and a wild mushroom risotto at $22 each. We placed our order and waited... and waited... and waited... 45 mins later, the food finally arrived leaving us little time to scoff it down before having to catch the ferry. The first thing that caught our eye was the moat of yellow oil surrounding the risotto. It was, literally, swimming in oil. The second noticeable thing was the bland taste. Yes, there was the odd mushroom in the risotto but it was mostly just a bland oily pile of
rice. The chicken parmigiana was not much better... although it was a good size it tasted as though some tinned tomatoes had been tipped over it with no attempt at real flavour. We were utterly disgusted by the food and the relatively premium prices being charged for it.
While the view was lovely looking over the ocean, we would strongly recommend choosing any other place to eat rather than the Penneshaw Hotel. We left with lighter wallets and a heavy, nauseous feeling in our stomachs.

Gr8 views , Meal took too long to get and when it finally arrived both dishes were on the Luke warm side ., Garlic bread , good size serving but on the cool side .1 dish was a chicken Parmigana , Looked nice , good size and side salad was well presented , but Alas ! Luke warm , the other dish was the Seafood basket , a little on the light side of serve size , lots of chips but not a lot of the seafood , once again cool seafood not the best , wouldn't hurry back ....

The location and view is amazing however the food is much too overpriced. The quality is not that good and there is usually quite a long wait as well. So unfortunately not one of the best...

I have been here waiting now for an hour and 20 minutes. Other customers have come and gone. When I asked about the delay no appology was forthcoming. Instead I was told they were busy despite most tables being vacant. I know sometimes mistakes happen but an appology would go along way to improving my experiance of waiting here.

Only 2 nights on KI and as our hotel was walking distance we decided to eat at the Hotel. What a pleasant surprise!!! Very friendly staff, even ideas on how to drink my husbands favourite Scotch ( warm ?!). Food was miles above pub food and the new chef is bringing new inspiration to the menu. Bravo to all- can't rate highly enough!!!!!! And we could walk home- always a bonus.

Thank Joy R
