Rooms reminded us of motel type accommodation although clean and comfortable. We were in an ocean view room on ground floor and heard penguins at night which was not all that bad. Restuarant was not at all good and staff are alike, but the remote location could be the reason for not being able to get good staff, most are locals I think.

Room Tip: Ocean view would probably be the pick.

Kangaroo Island was the highlight of our Easter Getaway and the staff and facilities at Seafront Resort really topped it off. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We spent 3 nights at the hotel and even though it was busy everywhere the staff in both reception and the restaurant always looked relaxed and happy. We dined in the restaurant on 2 nights and both times the food was delicious, fresh and hot. The service was great and waiters were always smiling and we never waited long between courses. The view from our room was breathtaking looking across the ocean and watching the ferries cross over from the mainland. The rooms were very clean and the bed so comfy I didn't want to get up but needed to as the Island is so big there is always something to see and do.

Firstly i think this hotel has the potential to be really good but it really wasn't. Stayed at the hotel so we would be close to the early morning ferry - i think this is probably the best thing i can say...it's close to the ferry!

We arrived and were told that the seaview room we booked was not available due to problems with taps/water. Were downgraded to a heritage room which was a bit dark with one small window. It had a bed in one section and tv/couch in another little section. We were given a $30 dinner voucher and a breakfast voucher to make up for this issue. This was fine but we hadn't planned on eating in the hotel so had to change our plan. The receptionist told us the room was just as nice and we were getting a free meal anyway!

The meal that night was such a bad experience - we stood for a few mins at the door to be seated before someone finally came over. Waited for another 10 mins to give our order. The food came quickly and was fine. We asked for the bill and for 10 mins nothing happened. We asked again and we got the bill and was told to pay at reception. No one at reception - went back in and the waitress came out to put the payment though - arrgh!

It's definitely overpriced and service is really lacking so my advice would be to stay somewhere else and get a later ferry!

Stayed for 4 nights, if you don't have transport it is very hard to get around. The Hotel is very dated and over priced. Out room was very roomy and over looked the seafront., but very basic. The restuarant is over priced and could do with a make over, we only ate in there on night, we found the local pub more reasonable. The hotel arranged for us to hire a car for 2 days, be sure that you hire one with 4 wheel drive as most of the roads are unmade.

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to eat.

Firstly anyone undecided about visitng Kangaroo Island, you must go it was the best part of our whole trip!
The hotel is basic and very outdated. The restaurant looks like a canteen but has ridiculous priced food for very small portions, I was starving after I finished dinner. Breakfast was an absolute joke, I have never seen such a poor spread before toast and cereal only! There is no where else to eat in Penneshaw!
The rooms are not very comfortable and don't give a very exciting view of the sea. The penguin colony is very close to the hotel and I could imagine in breeding season it could
very difficult to get any sleep as they are active at night. The wind howled under our bedroom door all night, which was very annoying. Our shower head was broken and spewed water in every direction. We complained the next morning and asked for it to be fixed while we were out for the day, nothing was done about it. When we went to complain at 8.10pm there was no one on reception despite it says it is manned until 8.30pm, so we dialled 9 on the phone as it says to and the handset phone just rang and rang behind the desk. We went to find the receptionist and found her hiding in the dark in a room on her mobile. When we stood staring at her in horror she asked was there a problem? Said yes our shower was still broken, she said someone would be with us in a minute and went back to her phone call. I said it is not good enough you are the receptionist and are the only person around so deal with it now. She finally came to reception 10 mins later and said she had finished work but out of the goodness of her heart would help us and gave us keys to another room. I complained about her in the morning, she hadn't finished work and was slacking, not good enough.

I would not stay here again.

Management response:Responded 6 March 2011

The management at the Seafront Resort would like to acknowlwdge the following feedback. As you can understand being on an Island it is hard to get parts quickly, but now we are happy to say that all the shower heads in the oceanfront rooms have all been replaced and fixed. We can also garentee that you can not hear the Penguins at night, and in fact the penguin centre is 300meters away from the property. Lastly the receptionist in question was off duty when she was on her phone and she tried to assist with the shower after her shift was finished. We thank all our guests for their feedback and fix issues as they come up.
