Kangaroo Island Seafront

Visited Kangaroo Island for a two-day tour with my wife and two children (ages 12 & 9). We were touring Oz for 4 weeks and had an amazing trip. Sadly, the ONLY disappointment was our night at this hotel which bore NO relation to what I had read on its website or on the internet.

It was a shame as we had a wonderful tour of Kangaroo Island with Keith of Discovery Tours. He knew exactly where to go and at what time so as to avoid the many coaches visiting for the days. we were by ourselves at Admiralty Arch, looking at the Seals. Hardly anyone at the truly 'Amazing Rocks' and, again, were part of only a small group as we walked along the beach with the seals. On our second day he took us to 'Paul's Place'... a farmer who takes in rescued animals. We had such a fantastic time there. Keith was very sorry to hear of our experience at the hotel.

We turned up at circa 7pm and were shown to, literally, a large shack at the bottom of the gardens. It looked like a 1950s holiday camp chalet inside. The beds sagged in the middle and the place was both damp and cold. No wonder the Receptionist looked so sheepish. As you can see from our photos, this bore no relation to the pictures you see on their website.

The food in evening was not bad, but the maitre'd is from the UK and has a sense of humour that borders on rudeness. His opening comment was 'Not another family from Bath!'. Maybe on another day, I may have warmed to him, but sadly I was too cold and shocked having seen the room.

What made matters worse is that I have since worked out that the hotel was probably £500 of the cost of the tour and was, by far, the worse experience I have had in years!

I attach our pictures, so compare for yourself. DO visit KI, it is truly a magical place, just book direct with hotels and book a tour separate, not a package. I also recommend Keith, he was great.

Stayed in a 2 bed bungalow, its was very dated and in need of refurbishment, it was not unclean just dated.
The price didnt really reflect this as it was not as cheap as it should have been.
Having said that I do think that all other areas of the hotel appeared much more modern and clean.
The bistro and resturant had fantastic food and very good value for money. The staff very helpful and despite not wanting to stay in and relax in the bungalow it was no real issue.

I stayed at the Seafront one night in September 2008. While there are no elevators the stairs weren't obsessive and with a bad knee I was o.k. The hotel is located near a few resturants, a grocery store, and walking distance to the penguin center.

The room (I had a room facing the water) was oversized with a nice little bar area, and a comfortable bed. My only complaint is the luggage rack is right below the t.v. so I always had to be careful not to hit my head. I would have no problem staying here again.

While touring Kangaroo Island, there are only a few hotels to choose from. The KI Seafront looks nice, but there was no elevator and we had to lug our cases up two flights of stairs. Not good for older travelers. The restaurant was a little pricey but in the building and there aren't many of those to choose from either. The room was tired looking but accommodations were adequate. Next time, we will probably try another hotel to see if it gets any better.

We visited Kangaroo Island with friends and stayed at this hotel for 3 nights.

There is no airconditioning (only ceiling fans) in the rooms and at the height of summer, this was most uncomfortable.

Our room had no hot water and we asked for a room change which could not be facilitated. We later discovered that they turn off hot water to save money. The next night our water was warm.

The younger staff were friendly, however the hosts were cold with few people skills.

The restaurant is over priced.

The hotel was clean and the surrounds were pleasant but this is not a 4 star hotel as cited in the advertising.

The Seafront is the place to stay on Kangaroo Island. It is convenient to the ferry and the penguin colony. The best part of the Seafront is the staff. They are friendly, accommodating and fun. The food is excellent and the management (Rich) makes certain everything is satisfactory. The complimentary morning breakfast is superb. The rooms are spacious, attractive, comfortable and clean. I'd go back at first opportunity and spend more time there as it's a great place for an extended vacation.

The Seafront Hotel has a very professional staff who looked after the guests very well. My friend and I had a wonderful experience in KI and would love to visit it again. Penneshaw is a great place for those arriving by ferry. It's a bit far from the rest of the attractions on KI though. It's about a 2-hour drive from Flinders Chase National Park. Good if you're not pressed for time. We had to get back to Penneshaw before dark, so that was a bit stressful. I would recommend the Seafront anytime. Great views of the sea and occasionally, you might even spot a whale!
