I did this trip just after Christmas with my husband and adult son, and found it to be a perfect getaway for beach lovers like us. The walk was a doddle for our son, but carrying the pack was the hardest thing for me. Swimming in the ocean seemed to relieve all the aches and pains - I think it is called an 'ice bath'. The water was an amazing turquoise colour and very inviting.
The guides, Lou and Cody, made this trip really fun. Just at the right time, they would pull out some snacks, like homemade cookies. We would all stop and absorb the beautiful coastline we were lucky enough to be a part of for 4 days. Each night they cooked up a gourmet storm, and treated us like royalty.
They were botanists, historians, chefs, cleaners, engineers, boot camp leaders and comedians. The small group of 10 people was a great number, and turned out to be a great mix. The kayaking on day 3 was a nice change of pace, and a bit of a challenge across the lake against the wind. But we all made it and were rewarded with a lovely lunch that magically appeared.
The lodge was spectacular, seeming to cantilever out over the coast, with amazing views. The design is beautiful and the ambiance was wonderfully relaxing. I tried a spa treatment and was not disappointed. My treatment took place a few hundred yards away in a little building that had more amazing views up the coast.
Don't forget the camera. You will have some amazing memories.
