Without doubt the best hostel i've stayed in. The staff are polite and personable, the rooms are clean and spacious, the residents are friendly and very welcoming.
Its a home for anyone and everyone; whether you want to have fun with the other residents in the courtyard or have some alone time and watch tv. Kitchen facilities are beautifully maintained and rooms are consistently cleaned.
On top of that its located 30 seconds (LITERALLY 30 SECONDS) from the beach and has an amazing burger joint attached to it.
Its a lot of fun and well worth a week or two stay...or a few months

This hostel is, quite simply, outstanding. The majority of the staff are extremely helpful (of course everyone has bad days) and can be approached about pretty much any problem, any time of day and night.

The rooms are kept to a decent standard of cleanliness and personal space is respected. Lockers are provided in the rooms for extra storage and bed sheets can be exchanged daily for clean ones.

The amenities are also of quite a good standard. There are 3 television rooms and a communal courtyard and kitchen. The kitchen can, quite obviously, get busy at peak times. The courtyard is a very sociable place. There are generally at least a few people to converse with and most are welcoming and accomodating. Being an outgoing individual here will reward you with some of the best people you will meet on your travels and in life in general. Every wednesday hosts a free food night which consists of kebabs or an alternative vegetarian option.

The prices are quite amazing. 174 for one week or 348 for two. They include one or two free nights respectively and the free food on Wednesday.

As stated, the guests are brilliant. It can get a bit noisy at times as people tend to really enjoy themselves and the stories that flow. It is certainly a 22-28ish crowd, however the odd older guest can be found revelling in the quality atmosphere. Oh, did i forget to mention its only a few feet from the beach?

In all, those looking for a good time, good people and good fun here will most certainly find it. I would recommend this hostel to anyone.

This hostel is covered in posters advertising their "rules" for example, the hostel is an alcohol free place, if you want to drink go to the bar next door. Another poster, no alcohol in glass bottles, cans are ok.... Not if your a drink free hostel! The courtyard is full of people drinking and taking drugs, its not that far from reception so even if they never left the counter they still had to be aware. However I got the feeling that some of the staff are afraid of the large drunk groups that occupy this hostel. I really felt for the poor girl who had to deal with the drunk who fell off a bench and smashed a window while we were trying to check out.
The rooms were advertised as being cleaned daily, but they need more than a clean. The shower in our room had flooded the day we checked in but were assured it was fixed. It was fixed as long as you didn't want your shower to last longer than 60 seconds or didn't mind it overflowing and flooding the room. The toilet was constantly blocked, unsure how they cleaned it and maintained the blockage. The number of ants living on top of the fridge, looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. Not enough accessible power points in the rooms. If your traveling with a friend or partner don't bother paying for a second key, we didn't need a key the whole time we were there since no one seems to grasp how to lock a door. Also doesn't matter what room your in as drunks will come and go all night.
The bonus of our stay was staying in an 8 bed room, with 2 empty beds...the last night we were there 9 people slept in that room and I believe 2 of them weren't even staying at the hostel.

The only positive for this hostel was the location, you are a stones throw from the beach and the area is stunning.

I have never stayed in a place where other guests are so inconsiderate slamming doors, singing shouting screaming till after mid night most nights, stomping up the corridors! the doors to the room offer no sound protection because of the massive gaps underneath. and the ultra thin windows dont block any noise of the pub garden behind. drunk people and loud music til gone 2am. the kitchen is the most unsocialble place i have ever been, just feel awkward as no one speaks to you!
on the plus side the staff are very helpfull and couldnt do enough to help!

Ok so first things first.
This hostel gets my 5 star rating because it seriously was the best run hostel in the 1 and half years of travelling - Hello Beautiful beach on your door step!! Next is HELLO $174 for 1 week ($25 day = BARGAIN) in a perfect dorm with an ensuite bathroom and wake up to beach views!! I mean c'mon - where do you get that? Oh and how excited was I to find FREE CAR PARKING - after all my parking tickets in australia I have hit the jackpot. How did I not find this place sooner? Especially after averaging $199 per week at other perth hostels for minimilistic rooms and a bathroom down the hall...and no beach. and almost daily tickets! So fair play - I don't know if I can leave Cottesloe. I'm in love.

Ok so the honest part - some staff AMAZING...other not so much - much like the guests. But hey, each to their own.
Kitchen gets crowded at peak times and some of the guests could use a good slap for laziness. Did however enjoy how staff deal with it - CAMERA's are their best friend apparently. Staff are onto it haha.

Noise? Well yes - but it all shuts down at 11pm so that worked for me.
Courtyard was always a little 'owned' by the regulars but they encouraged you to join in - drinking's not really my thing so was nice to mix with more my type in the reception lounge.
Best price for Internet was $8 for 4hrs (log on/off) so that was great for my skype sessions.

Free Dinner once a week (sausages / salad / bread / cheese) that's what I had on my week, and it was delicious. (sausage sizzle?) The BBq is free to use. Surfboards/bodyboards/Volleyball set/balls/heaps of equipment FREE to use)
3 TV rooms/movie rooms.

I loved it here - when you've done as much travelling as I have - you appreciate a hostel like this. No it wasn't always perfect but every hostel has inconsiderate guests. Just report an issue and staff will turf them out. Like I said... the staff are onto it.

I am housesharing now for the next 3 months - I miss this place alot.
I hope this review helps - if you want Staff running the hostel and NOT the guests (as it happens over and over in other places) then do yourself a favour.

Oh and Scuplture by the Sea was during my stay - that was a highlight.

Room Tip: Get the staff to match you to a suitable room - I didn't want party girls in my room and they g...

First hostel to stay in when I arrived in Australia, was a shock to the system initially but in comparison to a lot of others I stayed in during my ten month travelling period it was one of the better ones.
Kitchen are tiny and lack cooking utensils etc. They isn't enough space to cook and only one table with about 10chairs for a hostel of maybe 100-200 people to use.
Location is good, right beside the beach but cottlesloe doesn't have much to offer, although there are buses every 20minutes to perth from outside the hostel. There is a bar next door which is typical ozzy and good for a few drinks. Not a bad starting point- they organise nights out and quiz nights and other activities which is good to help you mix with people.
Bathrooms are awful and dirty and dated, flip flops at all times.

- People are always drunken until late in the morning and shout, talk and sing drunken at the badly soundproofed floors.
- Doors don't give enough noise protection because there is a 3 cm gap between the doors and the floor
- drugs get consumed a LOT!
- under the hostel there is a huge pub where people celebrate EVERY NIGHT, sometimes with LIVE MUSIK.
- No air conditioning- it gets so hot during the day that you are forced to leave the only partly working windows open. In that case the smoke of the cigarette-smoking people from the pub comes up into the rooms constantly which is fairly annoying for non-smokers.
- the hostel is at a intersection of a main road in cottesloe on a hill where busses start and pass every 15 minutes but thats is still standable. More annoying are the drivers of pimped up cars and motorbikes. The pub downstairs is a famous place to go to for harley-davidson drivers who seem to do contests in starting their engines in high revs.
-next to the pub there is a bottle shop that belongs to the hotel next to the hostel. People come and go to a huge parking infront to buy their stuff 24/7- one more noisr factor.
-who still feels quiet in that place can join a party area downstairs at the court and shout with the other drunken teenagers in the rhythm of the music until 11pm.
- Lockers are provided but not secure at all
- showers dirty, fridges overloaded
- horrible kitchen!!!! The whole equipment is overused, sinks blocked, cleaning equipment in shockingly dirty condition.
-mostly long-term stay people- rooms in correspondingly condition/tidyness.
- staff tries to be helpful, location 150m to the beach- these are the only possitive points to mention.
- FAZIT It is a good place to stay for a few nights if you simply want to spent a few days on the beach but DO NOT expext a quiet place- it is awefully noisy.
