It s a reasonable drive to Lake Ferry and you wonder what is at the end of this remote road. Lo and behold a pub (but not much else). Friendly staff, good hearty food, bit run down but it is a country pub at the end of the (North Island) world.

I went here for my birthday with a group of twenty five.

We ate like kings and danced the night away. The set menu BBQ was excellent with a wide range of fresh food, including fish.

The next morning we got the full cooked breakfast, including chips...

Highly recommended, have eaten here a few times now, the pie is always a good option as is the seafood chowder, or full flounder for breakfast.

The Ferry is a classic old pub with great history in a small village overlooking Cook Straight. You can sit outside on a nice day and look right across the Straight and clearly see the Kaikoura Ranges. It is an institution and a must visit on any trip to the Wairarapa Coast. The meals are very good and the service always with a smile.

Even though it takes 30 minutes from home to here, it's well worth the drive. I never go without my LeicaCamera, the setting is spectacular, the service is pure Kiwi and the Fish 'n Chips the freshest I have ever tasted. The hotel has accommodation with wheelchair access and they are constructing disability bathrooms. To sit inside or out, facing west into the setting sun, out over the Remutaka Ranges is sublime. Winter or Summer. I am goi g to break my F & C fixation and start tasting their chowder and other menu items, will report back. Ciao :)

This is a favourite eating spot of ours - especially when the weather is fine and you can sit outside and view the lake and shingle bar with the South Island in the distance. It is hard to go past their fish and chips - although in the season it has to be whitebait (you can watch folk catching whitebait just across the road). Good coffee, friendly service in an old country pub (with atmosphere). Make sure you have time to peruse the photos and articles on the wall, there is some interesting history recorded. Today we visited Lake Ferry for the ANZAC service - the final part of the service was conducted in the hotel bar - followed by a very generous morning tea "on the house".
