“So disappointed”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Totally gutted on reading all these glowing reviews that we did not have a similar experience. Reception and our room were unbearably cold on arrival. The heat pump had a difficult job keeping the room warm. The bed was hard. The bed linen consisted of a thin duvet inner between two sheets. Lighting was poor - two bedside lamps and a desk lamp. There were down lights over two of the windows but they did not work. Small flat screen TV with minimal channels. As the evening progressed noticed that the area on the vanity unit behind the sink was covered in dust. On closer inspection realised that our room had had only a surface clean. The whole room plus furnishings were in need of a good dusting. Did not dine at the restaurant as we were advised by a staff member that we would have a much more enjoyable meal across the road. Have looked up the hotel website since and the room we stayed in, The Didsbury Room, is described as their "luxury room". This was to be the highlight of our trip, according to our daughter who stayed here two years ago. Shame on you Martinborough Hotel!

We love the Martinborough Hotel hospitality. We always book a garden room, out the back of the main hotel complex. Superb comfort, quiet, airy... Just perfect. Away from the hustle and bustle of busy country hotel life. Food and service are very good. Nothing is too much trouble. Sitting gently on the edge of the Square the Martinborough Hotel is close to all the good things this area has to offer. The hotel buildings are traditional, beautifully refurbished some years ago. The garden rooms are modern decor. We love our stays there!

Room Tip: Choose the garden rooms - quiet, airy, perfect.

This hotel is in a great location on the square. The rooms are tastefully furnished. The bar serves Martinborough wine by the glass and tasty bar snacks - recommend the fries! Staff very friendly.Lots of cafes right close by and the hotel is a good base for going on a wine trail around the Martinborough wneries.

Room Tip: Rooms on the verandha overlook the square.

I arrived late for mid-week (6:30 pm) I got a call an hour earlier saying my key would be in an envelope in reception, and we look forward to seeing you in the morning. The hotel is a little gem, and coming in late is still like coming home, the fire was on in the lounge. On the Square in Martinborough it is really lovely, but mid-week in winter don't be surprised if you are the only person out and about.

My room was classic old school hotel, clean and comfortable.

Meeting the staff in the morning, they were very friendly and genuinely please to meet you.

Would stay again.

The hotel was marvelous. The staff could not have been more helpful. It was a bit of a rainy day, so we inquired about a movie theater. She whips out a printed listing of times and titles of the shows ! She told us about the wine center, which gave us the wineries that were open, and times. We sat in the library with a bottle of wine in front of the fire. The grill attached to the hotel has $10 pizza, which was delish. The garden rooms were spacious and very clean. Even in the winter, this sleepy little wine town was amazing!

Beautifully refurbished hotel right in the middle of town. Staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was comfortable and clean with a huge bathroom and a verandah overlooking the main square. Plenty of wonderful cafés within walking distance and close to several wineries. Would definitely stay here again!

Spent a night in one of the garden rooms. Very spacious, well appointed and one of the most comfortable hotel beds. Reception staff were very welcoming, explained the set up, use of lounge and library areas. It was very good value for a superbly located hotel right in the centre of the town. There are a good number of cafés in the area. The wine centre opposite was a good places to visit to get information on the area.

So pleased your full Martinborough visit was a good one! It is a very special little town and hotel. The Garden rooms are very good and quite a few people don't actually know of them. Lovely, quiet, good size too!

Hope to see you back again soon.
