This experience was a little mixed but a very good one none the less. When we arrived at the cottage and we were met by the owner and shown our to our cottage. It was lovely but unfortunately extremely cold. I immediately put on the little radiator heater to try and get some warmth into this cottage. I discovered a window open in the bathroom and quickly closed it. My husband then got the chippie fire going and after some time the place started to warm up. We unpacked and settled in. We had two nights here and wanted to make the most of it. The bed looked very comfortable and the bath very welcoming. The bounty in the fridge for our breakfast was very tempting, but we took ourselves off for a meal. We had a very good nights sleep. In the morning we got up and attacked the bounty. There was fruit, yoghurt, a selection of jams and butters, a jug of milk and a jug of fruit. On a plate there was bacon, breakfast sausages, tomato, mushrooms and two eggs. What a treat, but wait, there's more. At 8 O'clock there was a discreet delivery to our little shelf outside the door which inside a basket, wrapped with a cloth serviette, was two long rolls, two croissants and two pastries and of course the morning paper was there too. What a delight. Yummmmmmmy!!!!!!!!! We'll be back. Thankyou

Room Tip: These are cottages and as we only booked Shy Cottage I can only say it was beautiful.

We recently stayed at Shy Cottage as a surprise weekend away for my partners birthday. Of all the accommodation we have ever stayed at between us, this was by far the best. From the wooden floors and claw foot bath, to the roaring fire and the most comfortable bed and pillows ever. The cherry on the top was the fantastic hosts and the basket of fresh breads and pastries and the morning newspaper left for us each day. The fridge was stocked with lots of goodies for a cooked breakfast and lovely fruits and yoghurt for the cereals left for us. Although the weekend weather was dreadful (stormy) we had a fantastic time. Well worth the money, this quaint little cottage reached every expectation and more. Will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: There are two cottages on the property. Our friends stayed one of the nights we were there in the o...

We have just returned for a fabulous 3 night stay at Shy Cottage - We had read the lovely reviews on Trip Advisor and thought we would put trust in these comments for my birthday treat. We were not disappointed in any way. All the extra little touches were very much appreciated - the most comfortable bed ever. Deirdre was a wonderful lady who goes the extra mile as well as being so friendly and welcoming. The garden is inspiring and it was great to in a quiet spot but close enough to walk to town. Thanks Deidre - you were a joy to meet and your cottage amazing.

We will never forget our time at Shy Cottage. We can only agree with the other reviews here but have to add that the cottage is surrounded by beautiful grounds, has a barbecue shack, and the most attentive hosts you will ever find. We'll be back! Anne & Ron.

Shy Cottage is a good size and in an excellent location. It's comfortable, homely and has incredibly soft towels! Set back from the main road it's peaceful and relaxing.

The food was great. A bowl of fruit and jar of cookies were refilled throughout our stay. Fresh breads and pastries were delivered daily. All the ingredients for breakfast were provided: a platter of local sausages, bacon, eggs, chopped mushrooms and tomatoes; three cereals, stewed fruit, fresh yoghurt, local jams/marmalades; a choice of butter or margarine; apple juice and milk. We couldn't eat everything in one meal; there was always enough left to do a lunch, snack or dessert.

Our hosts' generosity seemed limitless. Nothing was too much trouble: late checkout, extra supplies, free return travel to the train station. We're not coffee or tea drinkers: if we'd mentioned this before or during our stay I've no doubt that alternative provisions would have been supplied for us. Great place. Highly recommended.
