“Highway To Hell!”
Reviewed 14 October 2012

The title says it all!

Upon arrival it isn't clear as to where you are ment to go to check in. Our host was pleasant and the food was good quality and reasonably priced (this was included in the room fee), this is where the good stuff ends.

We looked around town for a while then returned to the hotel for a nap only to be jolted awake by the horrible karaoke coming from downstairs. We were placed in a room on the street front (#8) with a large window that banged due to the wind, add to that the bright street light, vehicle noise and light coming through the window (above the door) from the hallway light and you already had the makings of an uncomfortable night without adding the noise from downstairs in to the mix.

The guy doing most of the singing (or should I say torture) seemed determined to pick the most mundane songs imaginable and certainly didn't have the voice to carry it off. Add to that the woman who decided to treat us to her reindition of 'Highway To Hell', this sounded like some nightmarish American Idol audition, but wait there was more...next came the kitchen hand who was invited up to give another song the bash. There is a reason he works in the kitchen and after hearing him sing he should stay there!

After trying to sleep in the car (which wasn't working) we packed it in and drove home throughly disappointed in our short stay at Turkey Red.

Suggestion, if you choose to stay at Turkey Red don't stay in rooms #7 or #8, they are street front and get all of the road noise plus the light from the street lamps. Make sure that they are definately not doing karaoke on the night you stay.

Good luck.

We stayed at this property for our anniversary & a wee break from our young children. In retrospect we would have had a better time if we had stayed at home.
The Hotel has no televisions in the rooms & shared bathroom facilities, both of which were a bit off putting but the rooms looked nicely decorated & the staff were friendly.
We went down for dinner & had a lovely meal but near the end of it the Karaoke started up, this didn't end until midnight. We tried to go to sleep upstairs in our room but as there is no sound baffling at all, this proved impossible with the pumping karaoke & non-stop slamming door to the beer garden. Our room also had a frosted glass window over the door with the outside hall light directly next to it, our room was very bright which was also a obstacle to getting any sleep.
As the bathroom facilities are shared, bathrobes are provided in the bedrooms, however, the ones in our room were obviously worn judging by the hair & marks on them.
Next morning when I went to check out the owner asked us how our sleep was, upon passing on that it wasn't good at all she apologised but didn't make any move towards recompense........take a little money off our meal tab maybe?? Honestly I thought what we went through actually justified a refund of our accommodation.
We will not be staying there again & were relieved to get home.

Room Tip: Make sure they're not doing karaoke on the night you plan to stay here! Bring your own robes &am...
