Wakelin House is an unassuming small villa on the main street in Greytown in the Wairarapa. However behind its small cottage exterior, chef Antony North creates some very high end dining. We dined as a family, the two girls enjoying special request Chicken and Tarragon Pies (part of Antony's gourmet range of products produced at the restaurant) while the adults sampled the menu. The food is presented beautifully ,sometimes artfully deconstructed, dishes are substantial, elegant and all seemed to offer a fantastic array of tastes within- pork belly with celeriac salad, black pudding and apple puree- wild venison with pumpkin and tamarillo....My dish was exquisite- pumpkin, coconut and chilli bouillabaisse surrounding a salmon cake and pan fried Tarakihi. It is excellent dining and strongly recommended- Go and visit. We will certainly return.
