“Great place”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

Had a nice 2 night stay here with my wife in August. Willem, the owner, is great, and caters to your every need. Nice welcome drink on arrival, and very accommodating. Lovely surroundings, with a couple of roaming ducks and chickens, and some pigs out the back, and a beautiful pond. Very reasonable prices in Winter, and im sure the summer prices are worth it.

Self contained, had everything you need to do all your own cooking if you wish, or just grab it from Kerikeri town centre, 2 mins up the road.

Thank you Willem for your absolutely fabulous hospitality and kindness. Ample accomodation for our returning and resident NZ/Italian family in Kerikeri. Beautiful bathroom, great kitchen facilities to cook in, comfortable beds, lovely furnishings, gorgeous paintings on the walls in both units we stayed in, warm and cosy in winter, stunning, quiet, tranquil native and exotic surroundings, your grounds are spectacular. LOVED the gang of ducks and chooks, especially in the mornings. So close to all we needed in beautiful Northland. Yet another little piece of paradise in beautiful New Zealand. We cannot recommend your Avalon highly enough! European visitors to NZ and NZ visitors alike - come here for a gentle retreat to nurture and revive the soul. Angela and Mirco and Family. Im a regular visitor to Avalon Resort in Keri Keri & i must say that i always enjoy staying here.
It has really beautiful park like grounds/gardens & is certainly tranquil. The Chalets are well maintained & the beds are super comfortable. The owners are caring & do go that extra mile to make your stay as relaxing as possible.Thats why i keep on coming back here to stay-as it really is a special place.

Booked this resort after reading the glowing reviews but found the the reality to be much different. Cabins have poor thin cushions on all chairs and lounges and a futon type sofa in the living room had long since lost its shape and sloped forward so there was no real comfortable seating to be had. No area rugs at all, so winter stay was chilly and not at all cozy with bare wooden floors. Owner overly busy pointing out how to operate everything down to the bath plug and lectures on things past guests had done wrong. Kitchen equipped with bare essentials only. Expected more for a 'resort'. Location is down a long drive behind a commercial plant nursery which was a bit messy and the had many potholes when we visited which made getting in and out to Kerikeri a bit of a challenge. Definetly not for walking.

We only stayed for one night, but my friends and I all agreed that this was the service and facilities was amazing. The lodge we stayed made us feel like we were nice and secluded but was a close drive to town. Amazingly warm in the middle of winter, and the view is breathtaking. The owner was lovely and very helpful, would gladly recommend this place to anyone, next time I am visiting the area I know exactly where I would stay - I wished I had stayed more nights and gotten more out of this resort!
