“Delicious ”

As soon as you walk in the door you are welcomed with a free sample, we were offered a piece of Macadamia Butter Toffee Crunch. The chances of me walking out of there without buying it were second to none.
Be warned the shop contains some seriously delicious items so unless you have a dollar or two on you, don't go in.

Thank Sal c

“Oh my goodness...”

When we walked in we were greeted by a girl with a free sample - absolutely irresistable. The Macadamia Toffee was just melt in the mouth, and I bought a huge bag of Mac Brittle which was also a delight. Don't miss it, very special food.

“Incredible smells and tastes; chocolates then wine tasting in one day”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

What a way to start a culinary tour of wine tasting and eating in an area of NZ blessed with rich soil and mild subtropical climate. Bay of Islands and Paihia in particular are noted for their seafood, citrus, avocados, olive oils, vegetables and rich pastures for livestock .... And amazing scenery. On the way to Kerikeri we stopped at Makana Confections where the owner gave us a personal tour of the small boutique hand made confectionary. And we tasted many of their chocolate products. It did not take long to know you,had to purchase some of these mouth watering morsels. NOT CHEAP. We quickly spent over $100.00 but planned to take some of the confections back to family in Australia. Our ultimate destination was Ake Ake Winery in Kerikeri which was a 90 minute drive from Pahia. Many wineries in this area known for their crisp Sauvignon Blancs, Chambourcins, and Cabernet Merlot Blends. Ake Ake Winery has a bistro-style restaurant where we served locally grown foods and seafood from the Bay of Islands fresh that day. Our chef and winemaker gave us a tour of his vineyard and explanation of his " terroir" wine making techniques. It was a luncheon worth a Michelin Star out in the middle of a beautiful NZ countryside. We returned to Pahia on a route that did not take us back by Makana. Probably just as well. But since they ship all over the world, we will probably enjoy their chocolates again. We would highly recommend planning a wine tour into Kerikeri with a stop to taste Makana's chocolate confections. Do not miss tasting the Macadamia Toffee. Really melts in your mouth!

“delicious, expensive, unusual chocolates”
Reviewed 4 April 2013

Stopping on our way back from hiking the nearby falls, we stopped here to taste some freebies. Sucked in to buying some due to how "gobsmacked" we were, we got the Macadamia Toffee and the Cranberry macadamia toffee, wow! but not cheap! We also got to watch them make some fudge. Would recommend this as a stop, tho be prepared to buy, the tastes are that tempting!
