“Boutique Accommodation”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

I shared a wonderful weekend with my husband at Moon Gate Villa. The accommodation was excellent and the host wonderful. We felt very special from the time we arrived to the time we departed. The hosts were so helpful and the food was in abundance. I would highly recommend and we will be back. We loved the fact that this accommodation had at most 8 guests and we never saw anyone else while we were there.

We stayed at Moon gate for 2 nights but didn't want to leave we fell in love with the place. We were greeted and made to feel at home instantly. The room had plenty of space, was decorated nicely and the outdoor area was perfect for admiring the gardens and lovely night views. BEST bed, so comfortable..... if the breakfasts weren't so delicious we could have stayed in bed all day! What a breakfast it was: a selection of freshly cooked pastries, fruits and cereals, full cooked breakfast AND fruit smoothy!!! They really take that extra step to make sure that the stay perfect. THANKS!!!

We stayed at Moon Gate Villa for 2 nights. We originally booked for only one night but quickly decided to stay a second. There is plenty to see and do around Kerikeri. Our host, Lionel, was very friendly and welcoming. The whole building is only about 10 years old and so everything looks new. It is inset down a 50 metre garden-lined driveway from the main road and so there is no traffic noise. Entering the majestic front door you are presented with a little river with waterfalls running through the middle.

Our room was relatively large, incorporating a king size bed, desk and small lounge suite, with one side of the room consisting of large windows and doors opening onto the exquisitely appointed garden and lawns. The bathroom was well laid out and scrupulously clean and appointed with modern fittings. The rooms are spacious - no need to dodge open clashing doors as found in pokey hotel rooms or find things in hidden pull-outs like they were an after thought. This building feels like it was built for purpose and you very quickly feel at home.

I've stayed in hotels all around the world and I'd have to say that the attention to detail and perfectionism displayed by Lionel is almost overwhelming. Lionel recommended local restaurants which also turned out to be excellent.

The full breakfast consisted of fresh fruit and cereals, croissants, homemade muffins (!), freshly squeezed juice, ham and cheese, as well as cooked options such as bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, and so on. Excellent espresso coffee made to your preference. There is something for everyone here. Again, I don't believe I've had better service and quality anywhere.

I could go on with superlatives but it would sound over the top and gushing, if it doesn't already. Best to see it for yourself.

Stayed two nights in cottage in garden. Extremely well equipped with first rate bedroom, lounge area, kitchen and shower room. Private balcony ideal for sitting out at night looking at stars and milky way with almost no light pollution. Can only describe it as brilliant and superb value for money. Lionel as host is friendly and really helpful. Would definitely stay again if in area.

Having traveled round South Island New Zealand staying at B & Bs in 1999 with great success we decided to go to the North Island this year from Australia where we were staying with our daughter. We booked at Moon Gate Villa and were delighted to have a great welcome from Lionel and see what a beautiful place it was. The swimming pool was beautifully warm and the gardens full of the most lovely plants and very peaceful. Our room was spacious and had everything in it and more than a 5* hotel! Needless to say our breakfasts were delicious and our host pointed us in all the right directions for restaurants nearby and of course what to see in the area. If we go back th the North Island, that is where will will make for!

We stayed here for a family reunion and were impressed as soon as we arrived. Lionel (and the dogs) gave us such a warm welcome, we immediately felt at home. The rooms and cottage have everything you could need, the beds are luxuriously comfortable and the garden and pool delightful. Then there is the delicious breakfast of tropical fruits, croissants, toast, cheese/ham, and great coffee. We will definitely be back on our next visit. Thanks Lionel for looking after us so well. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: All 3 rooms are great.

My husband and I stayed at Moon Gate Villa for 2 nights at the very beginning of our 3 weeks stay in New Zealand. It was a little difficult to find, as it is off the road, and the sign at the end of the drive isn't very big, but once we found it we didn't want to leave. I wanted us to stay longer. it was wonderful.

We stayed in the cottage which was lovely.
the breakfast basket arrives and is left in the fridge for you (the previous evening).... and we sat out on the decking outside in the sunshine ~ heaven :)
We had THE most fabulous couple of days there, and as the other reviewers have said Lionel is the most accommodating host ever. Nothing is too much trouble.

Room Tip: we stayed in the cottage, and if that's anything to go by ~ the rooms in the house would be equ...
