“Knowledgeable and Friendly”

My husband and I were in the Bay of Islands for a few days, rented a car, and did a self guided wine tour. This was our first stop. We had the owner all to ourselves and he did a wonderful job of explaining each of the several wines and ports that he offers for tasting. It is $5 for 4 tastings, or free if you buy a bottle. We bought three! One was a merlot, a chardonnay, and the dark port (my husband liked the dark, but I liked the white better). Beautiful place to stop for a visit.

“Simple and memorable experience”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

Having been overwhelmed at the expensive and pretentious nature of most vineyards and wineries in guidebooks and leaflets we were thrilled to have stumbled upon Cottle Hill on a rainy drive North. We simply wanted a sampling experience with a brief tutorial and for $5 we were treated with friendly advice and invaluable guidance about the wine and ports on offer. Barbara was fantastic and had we not been skint backpackers we'd have scooped up a case to take home. Particular mention to the excellent Tawny Port.

Reviewed 5 January 2014 via mobile

went on a winery tour today and cottle hill was by far the best!! really friendly owners, took the time to answer any questions we asked, happy to see us throw something out we didn't like and tried hard to find something we did. tasted at least 6 or 7 wines. recommend to anyone and definitely looking at foward to going back one day.

“Great wine”
Reviewed 5 April 2013

We went to Paihia in June last year...not a high travel season. So none of the vineyards were open for visits. We went to the cellar door of Cottle Hill where a young woman let us taste some wine and talked to us about them. We then took back 3 bottles- a white and 2 ports, and they are excellent. I will definitely pick up a half dozen more bottles the next time i'm in the area.
It's a shame they dont stock their wine more widely.
